Stainless Steel Brake Lines

OK, so I went to install the stainless front brake line today. I got the old brake fluid out and removed the old line. I started to put the new line on and to my surprise, the line is too short. No matter how I routed it, I came up short of the master cylinder.

I took it off, and measured it. It's about 2.5" shorter than the stock line. The packaging lists a 93' GS500E, and I remember asking for the lines that allow for stock routing, but I'm going to have to double check my paperwork.

Is there something else that I am supposed to do for stainless brake lines?

Well, I called the company today and they weren't even willing to try looking up the invoice. The most they were willing to do was offer me 20% off if I ordered a new line. Granted, I did order the line 6 months ago but its not like I'm asking them for my money back or for a different color. I just want a line that fits my bike  :x .

I'm certainly not buying anything from them again. It was on the verge of being overpriced as it was. Now its time to write some letters :guns:

Has anyone had experience with stainless lines for the GS not made by spiegler?

I always made my own ... earls fittings and galfer lines ... though I have also used earls lines and galfer fittings  :lol: Guess what else ... make them and usually you can shorten them without any problems and it's almost free ... just need a ferrule ... OK won't help your current case ... but still ...

My co-worker gave me the suggestion of talking to my credit card company about getting my money back for the brake line.

I called today, and even though it was 6 months ago, I can file a dispute over the payment. I haven't yet, but I figure that the threat of this will be motivation enough to get them to exchange the line. I'm going to call Spiegler again on monday and I might not get a line or all my money back, but I have a chance at taking away some of what I paid for the brake line  :guns: .

Its a tough call ... I protested a couple things before mostly successfully ... I paid for 2 pairs of sunglasses which when they showed up were the wrong model ... and I wanted the right ones bad (They were the ST107's by optek ... yea no-name of sorts but under the helmet these are heaven) They sent me 108's ... similar but Blue instead of fiery red ... They never responded and I got a refund. Then I order 107's again and never got charged or get the stuff ... I became marked and they didn't send me wrong stuff ... I also did other ones ... but immediately on receipt is best  ... 6 months may be too late ...

I ordered a Spiegler line and it looks like it will fit fine.  The packaging was labelled '02 GS 500.  Clear cover with black fittings.  Looks nice and appears to be top quality.

I agree that the line looks well made, it just doesn't fit on my bike. Everyone makes mistakes, so that doesn't bother me. It's the "we won't even look up your invoice because its too much work" thing that bothers me.

This is kind of funny...not really.  I installed a set of SS lines on my bike and thought the fit was shady at best.  I certainly had to get creative with my routing.  

Do these manufactorer's not measure these lines out prior to producing them.

I have Suburban bars, which are lower than stock.  I imagine my line wouldn't be long enough with stock bars either.

Yep, and I ordered it straight from them, too.

Their website gives the impression that they sell OEM replacement kits. You can also order custom lines, too though.

I found another company that looks to have the same quality of product for $5 less and they are asking me how long to make it.

I don't think that I am going to get a new line from Spiegler, so I'll probably end up ordering from them and trying to sell the old one.

imho i wouldnt dispute it.  i mean.. it's been 6 months.....   most places have a 30 day return/exchange policy
