dogbones

hey,

anyone here has experience with dogbones (aka lowering links) on their bikes? i'm debating whether to use one or not on my r6 to lower it a bit (for better control while walking the bike).

some say that it'll mess with the handling, some say it's nonsense.

your experience will be greatly appreciated!

btw, i'm planning on using the dogbones from diamond powersports.

I just lowered my wife's GS with lowering links so that she can put her feet on the ground......I lowered the front of the bike as well.....I dropped the triples into the forks by a few mm to get the ergo's back to normal.....some of the others here can explain this principle better than I can (especially after a few beers.....hehehe GO SUNS!!!)

....after riding the bike like this for 2 weeks, she seems 100% A-ok.....handling is smooth....it was quite easy to do only took about 15 mins .....but remember.....the GS has that handy-dandy center stand.....

I just lowered my GS. I had a hard time finding links specifically for a GS500, so I used GSXR aluminum links - fit perfect and super light. Like Mastrind said, easy to put on using the center stand - but now my kickstand is too long and I need to find a shorter one - was thinking about one of those adjustable kickstands for drag race bikes or a Hayabusa...

How much do the dog bones lower the bike, and where can I get them? my wife needs it about 2 inches lower so she can flat foot it when she stops.

hey i just put some GSXR dog bones on my 04' 500f. I went with the middle link to even it out and it's bout 2" inches lower. it's a little stiff in the ride but alot of fun in turns. I am goin to get pics of my bike let me know what u think.

Just out of curiosity... what about your center stand after you lower the bike? I know if I'm riding 2 up and get even a little leaned over in a turn my center stand (I assume that's what it is... I haven't ever looked down to make sure...) will drag and scrape. That'd drive me crazy if it did that all the time...

cut the rubber bumper in half (the part attached to the muffler) and that will clear it up.. a little.. at least

I think it looks killa, like a baby Hayabusa... thats what I'm doin to mine. What did you do about the kickstand??

hey i haven't had a chance to cut the the kickstand. I have to put my front tire on a 2x4 piece of wood to be able to kick my kickstand down. I have my bike now after painting it i am going to post some pics of it later one when i get some pics of it.

When I purchased the bike I had problems because it was low

I was told that '91 bikes were that low, stock dogbones and stock back shock, and worn out front springs.

When turning, centerstand scratched easily the road.
When parking, the side stand was dangerous because the bike was not stable.
When parking, centerstand was *very* difficult to use.

I just got a couple of dogbones built by a local shop, and put fork spacers. Everything OK.

http://www.cpixel.com/album_display.asp?aid=349828 That address is wright. As the guy with the 91 i agree the centerstand does scrape but for me it is only when i hit a bump. I know how it is difficult to put on the center stand, but as for the side stand u need to cut it down for it to be stable i am in the proccess of doing that. I think that for a lowered bike it will be difficult any way you look at it. I got to admit one thing the handling needs to be tunned up for being that low, but it is fun riding around now.
