The secret? Beef fat...works great and if you get stranded on the road you can make free soup. ;) . Actually, I think the Baby G is the first bike I've had that didn't have a chain oiler. I've not put enough miles on her to require lubing the chain but I'll probably get whatever grease the Suzy shop recommends. Love the little GS and this forum.

I used chain wax and got 18,000 miles out of my original chain.
Am trying chain lube but the damn thing is very messy.
I think I'll go back to the wax.  I was thinking that the lube would condition the o-rings.

I used to use wax until I got the Scottoiler which I cannot praise enough, to be fair the only problem I ever had with the wax was remembering to do it. :?

I was actually wondering what was the best thing to use out there also. I'm currently using PJ1 Blue Label and PJ1 Super Cleaner. Goes on wet and dries sticky. Very little of it sprays off when applied right. Good choice or do you guys prefer something better?

I usually do a very light coat of Silkolene chain lube followed by a light coat of the Belray.  The Belray seems to hold the Sillkolene on and lasts longer.  Also, with this combination I have VERY little chain lube flying off and depositing itself on  my hugger and undertail.

I went from using products like Belray and Silkolene to using heavy diff oil, cheaper, less build up, easier to clean and if you let the chain sit overnight and don't over oil the chain it has minimal fling off.  I do oil the chain at 600mile intervals.

clean wit wd40 (although i heard kerosene is better?), wipe dry, then chain wax...every 600...

i was told by an old mechanic to paint on oil to the chain with a brush.  I did get 19,000 miles out of the original chain.  I do this little and often.

I clean with kerosene, then use Maxima Synthetic Chain Guard

I use wax. I haven't used lube, I wouldn't want to deal with the mess. Wax isn't messy at all and it never flies off.

The only one I have ever seen/used was Maxima Chain Wax.

Currently I use some kind of chain lube (Bel-Ray??) because that's what the dealer I went to had.  Leaves a white residue when dried, and a bunch of gunk on the sproket.  The can is so big, I probably won't run out for a long time to try something different.

Used to use PJ1, then switched to some brand of white lithium, several years ago I switched to a Honda lube that cleaned up easier (not good for wet riding though) and most recently using Maxima Chain Wax. Probably going to stay with it since it works on all of my bikes.
Common sense in not very common.

Where can i nab some wax? How does it get applied to the chain?

I have seen Maxima Chain Wax at most every motorcycle shop I have been in. It is in a spray can and goes on just like normal chain lube. The liquid evaporates and leaves the wax.
