Alright I just got this 96 GS500 3 weeks ago. Happened on it in my dad's garage, neglected, rusted tank, gummed up carbs, 1694 miles on the odom. Not a scratch on it other than the front fender is a little melted. Would not run. First thing I did was search online and found this sight. WOW!!!!!!
This morning I got up and put 106 miles on the GS and came home froze to death but grinnin from ear to ear and I owe that to this forum and its members. I started reading and soon came to find out the characteristics and "quirks" of this great little GS. But from my home here in Casstown Ohio I feel like I've come to know a great bunch of guys, "and gals, ie. Meighan" :thumb: Anyway I want to thank you all for taking the time to
create, maintain and build on the greatest forum I've ever seen and read. I love my little GS and look forward to many miles of enjoyment from it. But its a great comfort to know if I have a problem I'll have resource to perhaps solve my own problems instead of taking it to an uncaring push em in, push em out dealership.
I would suggest to any new member that enters this forum to please scan through the pages as I have and enjoy the feedback and stories that it contains. Its good that you can search and find specific related info but you'll miss a lot of good stuff.
One great feature about a lot of the GSTwins members is the openess of having made mistakes while riding then sharing that info here. I've owned bikes before and on a sunny Saturday would rip off down the road, little did I know how much danger I was in at the time, with no gear and or experience its a wonder I didn't kill myself at the time. The most surprising feature of this forum has become my interest in knowing what caused someone to go down on their bike. Reading those posts has given me a lot of valuable safety awareness that I would have only learned through trial and error, dangerous stuff out there amongst the cagers.
I'm 45 years old, a lift truck mechanic by trade, married, 2 grown boys 21 & 22. I want to enjoy the great outdoors on my bike and feel safe and confident about it and have found a great tool to accomplish that with this forum.

Hats off to Kerry, the wise one. Reminds me of the old dude on Kung Fu. I expect his replies to start off "Yes, Grasshopper but you must......"

Seshadri, wise dude, nice guy, white collar smarts, blue collar abilities, great humor in those posts I've laughed my ass off plenty of times reading your stuff. One day I want to have a beer with you. I crack up at the end of those carb threads where your trade mark answer has become " Ok,  send carbs, I fix, you pay shipping....

Thanks to a lot of the others also; Blueknyt, dgyver, pantablo, commuterguy, pixelmonkey, se7enty7, just to name a few. You've all added great info here.

(stumbles of stage throwing kisses)

NO SWEAT DUDE, there are many forums like this one, what makes this perticular forum one of the best, is, well, we are all Human, most of us remember we started out new too.  We were thankful for the freindly advice and friendly ribbing we got instead of redicule and the constant RTFM line that is VERY seldom seen here.

We also dont discriminate on other bikes, cept that dude who bought the Kawi, YOUR DEAD, YOU HEAR ME! J/k :)
Accelerate like your being chased, Corner like you mean it, Brake as if you life depends on it.
Ride Hard...or go home.

Its you Vs the pavement.....who wins today?

Actually many other forums suck ...
The savage one for instance ... The freaking thing is like an old boy network ... and you ask anyhitng other than saddle bag questions and they ignore you ... I just have no luck getting any real info about motor stuff from there ... Pathetic ... This is just 1000 times better ...
Cool.
