Ok, quick post before I go to bed.

I went back and re-read the stuff I wrote about you, Joe. Probably written a bit too harshly.

It just saddens me to know that a person as intolerant as you resides in the same country as me.
At first, when you were starting all these stupid threads, I kinda thought that you were just 'playing a character' kinda of like certain radio talk hosts do. Someone that is easy for everyone in that demographic to dislike, thereby creating a large amount of responses.

But as more time passes by I realize that unless you have a very long attention span, enabling you to maintain this 'character' over several weeks, you really are the person you portray in these threads.

I'm gonna try to not get entrenched into these topics anymore...   sorry if my remarks drifted down into the personal attack arena. I guess if I value my freedom to believe how I want, I gotta put up with you believing how you do. I'll not bother to try to dissuade you from your illusions anymore.

Hey Joe, my views did change as I moved up (I've long since retired...from the military and from the work-force), I used to hold some of the very same views as you. Then I started realizing that I cannot expect tolerance for myself from others if I can't give tolerance to others. I have come to understand that any group of people of, say, an ethnicity, religion, social standing...pick any group...will have those who are selfish and don't care about the rights, needs and wants of others. But this doesn't give me license to subject those groups, as a whole, to discrimination merely because they are of, or participate in, certain ideals that I myself do not subscribe to. Until we are judging based on fundamental standards of wrong such as violence without defense, theft where there is no basic need or any such thing that relates to the basic creed of not hurting, taking or forcing, we start becoming lower on a sliding scale than those whom we would seek to pass judgement. It embarasses me and I am ashamed when I think of what I once was. Let it go man...and just ride and smile and remember "the Sun don't shine on the same dog's ass twice". Man I love ridin' my little twin and I love this forum.

Again, I have to disagree.  I think that society NEEDS standards and that constantly lowering them is bad.  Look at everything that is "accepted" now.  Laws/morals/values are broken every second and in broad daylight.  When people don't care about and disregard the "little" things they quickly begin to disregard the big things.  You know this is true.  It's the slippery slope.  It's REAL, the downward slide really happens.  It's happening now.  Society goes down a little more each year.

Q?  Do you think our society is better now than in the past?  Would you have rather grown up when you did or now?  I'll pick the past any day.  Things are so screwed up now it's not funny.  People can't let their kids play out side.  TV has messed with kids minds turning them into consumer zombies.  School is nothing but a big playground.  With metal detectors!  Metal detectors at a school?  Not in my day.  Now when there's a fight an ambulance carries away the loser.  Kids are crazy.  They'll shoot someone for a look, for 35 cents.

Look at school violence, kids shooting up the school.  Why?  Because they were bullied and nobody did anything about it.  Bullies should be expelled.  They are what made me bad as a kid.  Can't beat them, join them.  Only the little wimpy or the fat kids can't.  They keep getting picked on.

Look at NYC.  in the 70/80s it was a dump.  Full of crime and dirty as hell.  Gulliani moved in and started arresting people for the "small stuff" and guess what, they were the same people doing the "big stuff" only the big stuff stopped happening because they were locked up for doing the small stuff.  Now, with the city safe, "regular" people began to move back in and now it's thriving.

The same thing is happening to the country in general.  A lot of small stuff going on and nobody wants it stopped.  Nobody cares.  Except me I guess.  

I really DON'T care who or what you are.  Those ladies I talk about, many are black, latino, asian, I don't care!  They really ARE in my mind just ladies.  I talk to them all without thinking about race.  But, if they try to steal something or break our rules then I do care.  When there are noise ordanaces and you sit there with your stereo blasting, you're giving ME the finger.  You're saying screw you, I'll do what I want and the hell with your right to peace.  When you lower a standard that concerns the safety of the public to fit in some sardine eater who wants to be a firefighter, again, it becomes MY problem.  When you want to change the MEANING of a longstanding institution, again, I care.  When you want to engage in sick (yes I find it sick) behavior in public I'm enraged.  I'm enraged that our leaders allow 10 million theives to steal our tax money, our medical services, fill our schools, take our jobs, to even BE here.  I blame the business owners for allowing it too.

Everyone is just a person until proved an @$$hole by their actions.  I DON'T discriminate and I don't believe in discrimination.  But, I also don't believe in affirmative action which is just descrimination.  And I don't believe in lowering physical standards to fit a genders shortcoming.

I don't think you can draw the line that low with your don't hurt, take or force.  I think morals need to be set higher and the line higher too.

And women have equal rights but different abilities, their job choices should reflect it.

I'm tired, and this has also been beaten into the ground.  I can't really say anything else.  

Maybe when I get real old, I'll stop caring about the world we live in and I too will throw up my hands, say I quit, and mellow out completely.

See, I don't expect tolerance because I don't go around annoying people and requiring it.  Here I annoy people because you don't like the truth.  I belive in the golden rule and I live that way.  I won't bother you, you don't bother me.  I do my thing without affecting you, I expect you to do the same.  I won't blast my stereo, you don't either.  I won't do sick things in public, you don't either.  I pay my way, you should too.  Get it?  When everyone lives by accepted rules, there really isn't any need for tolerance.  It's the boat rockers that need the tolerance.  And I have no need for boat rockers.

That doesn't mean we're all stepford families.  Not at all, you can be an individual but you do it within reason.  Reason, I guess that's it in a nutshell.  Be reasonable and everyone is happy.

That is MY ideal society.  Everyone pulls their weight.  Everyone is free to do whatever they want as long as they don't bother others physically, morally.  Everyone self-regulates their own behavior.  Pretty much what the founding fathers had in mind.

depends on what you call "smart".  i believe it's generally aggreed that men and women, while both intelligent, have different niches as far as intelligence is concerned.

Dontcha know I was a linebacker for the Dolphins     I can almost dunk a b-ball though without trying so if I can do it at 5'8" imagine if I was 7'3" i could (before heart problem) keep up with the guys. Actually, with my heart problem I can beat a great many guys at b-ball now. They usually think i'm a guy when I play then I take off the hat and they get real embarassed!

Oh, what a controversial topic this is!

I think men and women are overall equally stupid, but in different ways.  Women tend to be more emotional than men, which causes them to make emotionally-based decisions, which is not a wise thing to do.  Men, on the other hand, tend to have more pride, which can make them take stands it's also not wise to make.  So in everyday life, I think the stupidity, or lack of wisdom, is more-or-less equal.

Politically, it's another story.  Men tend to be politically more conservative than women.  I believe conservative government is best, as it protects your freedoms by spending less money on social programs, leaving more money in your pockets, giving you more choices, hence more freedom, not wanting to get involved in more and more of our daily lives.  I don't believe the government should be involved in most aspects of our daily lives.  Name for me one social problem that's gotten better since the government got involved.  You can't.  It doesn't exist.

To me that's a sign of a society that's falling apart.  Most women disagree with me on that.  Look at how they vote.  4 out of 5 women vote liberal, while about 4 out of 5 men vote conservative their whole lives.  Women get more conservative as they age, reaching almost 50% conservative voters when they have gray hair, which tells me they do learn politically, but for most it comes too late.

You may have noticed I left Democrat and Republican out of this discussion, and I did it for good reasons.  I view the Republicans as becoming too liberal for our own good, and the Democrats have been very liberal for many decades.  Both are now bad for our future, it's just a matter of degree.  Our government has become much more liberal since women started voting in 1920.  In fact, when you look at who white women vote for in most cases, there's your winner.  Women, particularly white women, control our elections more than any other group, and they are mostly vulnerable to emotional appeals, which is dangerous.  I'm not saying I wish they never voted, but I wish they'd use their heads instead of their hearts when they vote.  They just elected a Marxist for president of the United States.  Did they pay attention to that?  I doubt it.  I think they were taken-in by his athletic stature, good looks, and smooth talking.  Do they understand the horrible human rights history of Marxism?  I don't think so.

In actuality we need a great depression or we will never re write some of these, and never get the costs structure down for anything.

I think we need to walk into a doctors office and see prices for the different things offered. Like at mcdonalds.
The worst feature of western culture IMHO is - the college costs and the idiotic cultural trappings of society.
There were these kids in my neighborhood, many of them ... since I've lived there for 6 years I am the grandpa for these kids ... yea screw that, I am bad ass biker dude who is considered now reformed and I only do what is right due to born again faith ... whatever ... So, 90% of them by the time they hit 15-16-17, moved out ... and some of em live round the corner really, and without fail, they are working at McDonalds or Bojangles. There is just 2 that I know of, they are both living at home and guess what one of going to community college and other to UNC charlotte.

Huge difference there ... if you dont have bills to pay, you can actually afford to do something important ... like study. However Obama is pushing the "college for everyone" version of communism ... so I can totally see how this will back fire ...

Instead of being a bojangles employee with bills to pay ... you will now be a bojangles employee deep in college debt and have the bills also.

Very very important thing the Idiots we elect dont know ... the law of diminishing returns ... if 60% of people were home owners, and the country was happy, push it to 70% and the whole country will be depressed.

Same thing with college ... heck, we are exporting engineering jobs left right and center ... if we educate engineers I can see a small benifit to that, there will be a sorta supply that can stem the outflow because they can find the talent here (the biggest pretext for the outflow BTW).

However this big flow of people into schools is going to be in things other than true engineering, why, if you were inetersted in becoming an engineer, the threshold for your aptitude and requirements were so high, the ones that clear that went into it no matter what. They are not waiting for any governmental decree. This is going to create a lot of froth (much like the housing bubble did) ... so to save ourselves from the housing bubble we are now having a college bubble.
