hello, i just picked up my bike, but it didnt come with a users manual, anyone out there know where i can get ahold of a manul for the 2004 gs500?  or even better, i would like to help the site out, if you can make a link to amazon with it and ill buy it through gstwins.com link so they get credit.

my email is bperkin@sasktel.net

i also am looking for a front wheel fender to protect my poor rad.  ohh and a top fairing that is around the light...  thats all... anyopne with info on this, or have Yellow fairing or black fender for front wheel, please email me.

2nd, since i dont have a manual, i am concerned about how loose my chain is, how loose should it be,  1 inch play when you press down on it? (hopefully the chain is causing the lunk lunk sound, i think it is the tranny, but we will see)

I can help you with the chain: With the bike on the sidestand, halfway between the sprockets (about where the edge of the tire is, that is: the sharp point between tread surface and sidwall), push up and measure between .8 to 1.2 inches. Roll the bike forward or backwards and repeat on the chain in at least three different areas of the chain, and adjust the chain so that the tightest point in the chain is within specs.
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

As far as the manual goes - I seemed to have lost mine right after I picked my '04 up last summer. The dealer wanted to charge me $30 for a new one so I just bought the Clymer for the 1989-2002 models through the link on this site. It will tell you everything you need to know as the only significant differences bewteen the '02 and the '04 are the forks and the electrical system. You can pick up the supplemental to the Clymer at any dealer for a few dollars for those newer updates.  Frank.
