So really, there is no point to this post other than to be a whore and tell you how awesome I think my bike is.... I bought it last winter as a non-running, wrecked, fixxer upper, and I think I finally have it where I want it just in time for summer. Anyway, I guess a big thanks is in order for everyone on this board, no telling how much $$ I've saved being able to get parts cheap and do work myself.    I just got her painted by a local friend, color isn't what I was expecting, but I think it turned out pretty well. Anyway, that's pretty much it. Enjoy my wasted bandwidth.

Here's where it all started...(I had the tank and sides, but they were off for some reason.. think ugly, faded, scratched, purple paint...):

And here it is today:

What kind of mirrors are those, they look nice.

Also, what kind of pipe is that?

Bike looks clean, kudos on your great work.

Clean, I like it, very nice.

Those are SV mirrors, I really wanted the round ones from the early bikes, but.. meh. I think these look fine.

The pipe is the F1s like in the before pic. I just peeled off the crusty sticker w/ a razor blade and got some aluminum polish and went to town.

Oh yeah, this isn't really on topic but.. I got my advancer back from Bob B, world of difference. I basically gained 1-2k RPMs worth of power band down low. Take offs and slow putting around (IE looking for a parking spot or traffic...) are wayyyy smoother. When I added the pod I felt like a lost a lot of oomph down low, the advancer made it all come back and then some  :thumb:

The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

Did you have to rejet with that pipe, and where did you get it?

I'm wanting an aftermarket pipe without rejetting, is it possible?

You don't need to re-jet with that pipe.   Srinath will tell you about the F-1!

And I bet that pipe came on it.  But you can get one on Dennis Kirk I'm pretty sure for a couple hundred clams.  Pretty much the only slip on that doesn't require fabrication for the GS.

Looks like you've broght that bike along ways from when you got it, good work.  I really like the angle of that last pic, it looks sweet from there.

Sweet! It must feel great.

I know what exhaust wrap does.. but wondering why it is needed in GS?

Mk1inCali

Great work man!  Only suggestion I could make to improve the looks further would be a quick spray of the same color on the chain guard.  I think it looks better, some people don't.

Did you purposely leave that un-painted?

Great looking bike and have a great summer cruising on it!!

Why would I tell him about the Cobra ??? and DK has wileyco ... or they also have cobra ??? I hate the cobra ...
BTW that pipe looks nothing like a cobra F1R or F1S ... looks more like a D&D can. Heck its more wiley co than cobra ... whihc i know its not cos the ends on a wiley co are outside like a cap on the outer sleeve.
And sweet bike. But that wrap is just wrong ...
Cool.

It looks great!  I've been thinking about doing something similar to mine.

Did you have to remove everything to get the frame painted?  Like the engine and so forth?

Is this Squeaky's work?

Blueknyt

now just flip the taillight and it will sharpen the tail right up

Great job  :thumb:  :thumb:
I've been very impressed reading about your project.  The black wheels look best.  The longhorn on the license plate is a nice touch...
I'm getting an Aggie sticker on mine this weekend. ;)

Well, unless the prev. owner put a F1s sticker on the can, it's definitely an F1s. All I did was take off the fugly sticker.

You do need to rejet w/ the F1s. I don't know why you wouldn't. I'm running 150/40/2 w/ the pipe, pod, and advancer. Runs like a top.

Exhaust wrap always gets a mixed reaction. I've always liked it, and my pipe kept looking like ass everytime I painted it, so... on went the wrap. I think it looks tough or something... who knows. I'm weird.

Mk1- Chain guard I didn't really think about. I dunno, it doesn't bother me so I probably won't mess with it. I think I like the contrast.

xtalman- It is Squeaky's work. She did the tank and all the plastics. I've never had the frame repainted, but yeah, you would have to tear everything down to do so.

Blueknyt- Yeah, I need to read up on flipping the tail light. That's my next project I think.

luksi-  :nana:  It's cool, I'm always impressed w/ the amount of Aggie pride there is running around in Austin.

Anyway, thanks for the compliments, I'll pass them along to the bike.  :thumb:

weaselnoze
