Arkansas motorcyclists, lead by efforts from ABATE of Arkansas, now may proceed through a red light, when safe to do so, if the vehicle detection device does not recognize the motorcycle.

HB2833 was signed by the Governor and is now Act 1886 which allows motorcycles to treat a red light as a stop sign in certain cases.

In other good news for Arkansas motorcyclists SB993, a bill to enhance right of way violations consistent with the AMA Justice For All initiative, passed through the State Legislature and has been signed by the Governor.

In WA, we were told that this is generally the case - a malfunctioning light is to be treated as a four-way stop.  A light that doesn't detect your bike is malfunctioning, so you can treat it as a stop sign.

But two caveats...
-You're not allowed to just run it.  You need to give it a cycle to show it can't "see" you, then yield to other traffic.
-Other vehicles don't know that it can't see you, and won't be expecting you to run it.  So be careful.

Same in Cali. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you have to wait for the light to cycle at least 4 times before you can move on.

No sheoot!  I let it go once.  There's one light at 15th and Pacific at the HSB that I resent waiting even one cycle for, because it _never_ senses bikes.  A labmate has a 1200 Sportster with a magnet on the frame that you can barely drag off with both hands, and the light doesn't change for him, either.

anybody know if anything like that applies in NY (mainly Long Island) A lot of times if I have to make a left and sit through 2 cycles I will make a right, and turn around so I am facing straight, behind a car that will trip the light. :x
Mainly worse at night when the timing of the lights is different.

heh applies here :nana: , rule is that i must come to a complete stop, ( like red light), before proceeding, heh, pisses cops off who are not familiar with regs. :nana:

How would I even go about finding out if it applies in NY, and then get documented proof? :dunno:

If it doesn't change, how can you wait four cycles? :dunno:

The other light turns red, but yours never changes to green, so you're all at a stop, OR the other side across from you turns green and yours never changes.
It's possible, and you'll know when you're in that situation-especially if there are other cars behind you-they start to get real mad as if it is your fault.

'04 GS500F...Anyone from Jersey wanna ride?

Daniely

I only run them at night here in cali. There is to much traffic to bother, Ill take the extra 5 min it takes to move back in with traffic and go around the malfunctioning light.

Certain lights in Seattle I just run...  On the bike or in the car...  They just take too damn long and there's no one coming. :dunno:

iandunn

The first light I hit leaving work each night won't pick my bike up. I can see for about 1000ft in both directions, and traffic is light, so I just run it as soon as there's no one in sight.

Does anyone know (or know how to find out) what the specific laws about this are in Ohio?

so what if the light isn't 'cycling' because it doesn't know you are there?  Is there usually an amount of time associated?  I've been snagged at a few lights that just flat out didn't change at all because I was on the side-street trying to cross a thoroughfare.  :dunno:

My strategy is usually just to hang a right, but here in State College, there are "no right on red" signs EVERYWHERE.   :x

what IS a Hokie?

TOMIMOTO

It should be legal everywhere. If it doesn't pick up your bike it is considered a broken light. They're supposed to pick up all street legal vehicles.

If you can't turn right anywhere or pull a U-ey anywhere just jump off your bike and hit the cross walk button if there is one. hehe. I know some people here do that.

I have found that if you shut off your bike and start it back up the light will change. Most lights are maganetic feild trigger and this seems to work for me at most of them :)
