That he fears for my safety due to my riding style.

I will admit i lean the lil gs over hard sometimes, but thats what makes it fun, when i scrape the tips of my shoes when doing corners while hanging off the bike. I would not be surprised that it shocks the other Barney's employees since they are sunny day riders only. I love riding to the limit and even in the rain, the lil gs is my only ride and I love her...

Besides, i never put it over hard unless I have ridden the area before and know my path is sand/oil/slippery stuff free and dry

tell em to screw off and leave on a one handed wheelie!

I get that from some people too... if you HONESTLY think you are riding within your limits, then dont let it get to you... if you even have the slightest doubt that you might be riding a bit too hard for your experience, then slow down.  Just make sure your ego is not lying to you cause you might get hurt. Other than that, some people are safety nazis... I do support full gear alot and safety on the roads too.. but you cant not have fun no more either.

As "Twist of the Wrist Two" says - the object is to use the least lean that will get you around the corner at speed - that leaves  you more margin if you need to change your line.

This is kinda related, so I thought that I would toss it in. I was talking to one of the engineers where I work about track days. He has been racing bikes for a long time, and this is what he told me:
QuoteIf you feel exhilarated when you're riding, you're riding outside of your limits. Always ride at a speed at which you are comfortable.

I'm sure this is debatable, but its one view on things.

Just because you feel "exhilarated" doesn't mean you are riding outside your limits. It is a generalization, but it definitely does not apply to me. Take me for example, I cherish everyday that I can ride my motorcycle. I even commute on my GS all year round. Not to sound selfish, but if someone told me I would have to choose her or my motorcycle, then I would tell her not to let the door hit her on the way out. I think the quote in my signature says it all :thumb:

Seriously, I can't imagine not having a motorcycle in my life. I've decided a few days ago my next bike is going to be a 2005 GSX-R600 in red and black:

Only problem is I am going to have to lower the seat a few inches. Don't worry, I am going to have the dealer lower the front as well as the rear. Originally, I narrowed it down to the 2005 GSX-R1000 and the 2005 SV650s. After much debate I realized the 1000 was too much bike and a little more than what I was willing to pay. The SV was definitely in my price range, but I felt I might have some regrets with this purchase. So, that is where the 600 comes in. I have plenty of power and style, but it is still within my budget. Yeeppeeee! Time to call the credit union

my brother went from the gs500 to the gsxr600 and it was the right move.  Hes been riding for 2 or 3 years on the gs.  He is also a shorty, we basically took the seat apart and shaved the foam down.  This did ok for him.  but the bike is still a beast, i think you made the right decision not going to the 1000.  I read somewhere that the thing weights like 360lbs wet with like 178 HP  (read it in my brothers motorcycle magizine.)

Why have I not seen that bike in that color is that new for 05 or 06, my bros is a 04 and they had only one color available, well one color for each model ( 600, 750, and 1000).

Im curious how you were chosing between the 1000 and an sv650....

anyway I think youll like the 600.  I like it, although it scares the shaZam! outta me ( i dont have quite the riding expereinece to drive it around regularly, just up and down the street)   Gonna keep the gs around?
throw the leg over, fire it up, hold on.  drive it like you stole it.

maybe 178hp at the crank for the gix 1k, but the most i've seen it dyno stock was 165ish hp at the wheel. Not to say that it isnt that powerfull, but those litrebikes will hit 100mph in the FIRST gear. Saying its a good choice not to have gone to the gix 1k is a severe understatement

Heck, even the 2005 R6 has been seen dynoed at 108hp at the rear wheel! That is a bike that weighs less then 400 pounds and has 108hp. Power delivery is completely different than our little twin here.

Also to get back to the subject a bit here in response to Goat for the "exhilirated" (SP) part... yes it is contravertial for sure.. but then again, its all a matter of judgement.... basicly it all depends on how high you set the bar for what is exhilirating.

ok so my first post in this thread was off topic, so ill steer it back.

I think that its nice for your manager to express concern for your safety.  Its definately a change of pace given that the corporation I work for could care less.  Id say tell him you appreciate his concern, and you never ride beyond your limits.

Now if it becomes a further issue and he pushes you to stop then you might have a problem.  however expressing concern at this point might be harmless

I'm a manager and I would not dream of making that sort of remark to one of my troops, quite a few of us are bikers and if one says something about riding his fireblade at 170mph round the local by-pass I might say, "rather you than me" or even "yeah but your' a mad sod" but I would never intervene or offer an oppinion about any colleagues out-of-work activities unless invited.

Secondly, make allowances, some people are just spooked by bikes, and lastly if you are confident that you have the training-knowledge-skill and experience, why not?

It's a little naive of you to assume that your road will be clean because you drove it before.

However, I agree with you.  I have the bike to have fun and push it to the limits(sometimes).  But ensure you are aware of the risks.

Hmm...
1. some people feels exhilarated just sitting on a bike.
2. it indicates that she or he is unsatisfied with her or his sex life.  :P

its your bike, you make the choice, be smooth, and smart.  Also watch out for rodes with inlets where cars could pull out in front of you, there arent many roads close to here taht are nice and twisty without alot of openings.  But there is this one curve where there arent any inlets close and its posted 35 or 40 and ive hit it at 95, thats about 86 with the error counted in.  I say its your call on how you want to ride, just be careful and smart.
