Engine Mounts - vibration

So has anybody checked into the engine mounts to address a vibration issue? I did a short search but couldn't find anything. (somebody is going to find a topic I know - but I couldn't, sorry)

Well anyway, I got a vibration that started very quickly while riding. I have had my bike to a shop and all they said was that 'it could be the engine mounts'. So I don't know if it is or isn't. How do you go about checking without taking the engine out ?!?!  It would seem to be rather involved regardless.

I have been riding with the vibration but I probably won't be able to put up with it on long rides. I have actually had one of my mirrors shake loose. And the tingle in da feet just ain't nice after the first 5 seconds.
The vibration does seem to calm down every once in a while to a quite tolerable level - weird.

My bike is only 2 years old w/ 20,500kms but bought used. One guy I spoke with about it said that a simple thing could have damaged the mounts like spilling fuel on them. Is this possible?

Any help on this one? Thanks.

loosen the bolts and inspect the mounts,  you may need a mirror to see them completly without standing on your head.  they should not look dry, cracked, or strectched.  when rubber mounts harden they tend to crack and it is usually obvious
