On the way to work I got behind a guy I work with and started to play around.  To make a long story short I got burnt by a stock 1997 Chevy Cavalier.  He pulled out to pass a car and I followed and he pulled away from me.  In the corners I would catch him easily but then he would pull away again.  When I got to work he asked me what happened.  I lied and said one of the corners spooked me and I let up on it.  Hell I was giving it all she had!

Before I get flamed and told again "with a 500 what did you expect?"  Honestly I thought it would at least do what it was registered for( and not get beat by a Cavalier).

On a side note I have started selling some of the extra components to my car.  I am selling the parts,  the car, and my truck to buy a bigger cc bike in the spring.  I am going to keep the GS though..... it will be my wife's.  Sorry for the rant and I also did not have a good day at work.

first..racing cars..is just bad new...but you already know that.

second....if you really got owned by a cavalier..and were racing under say 80-90mph, then check your skills man...not the bike.

The gs requires you to be in the right gear at all time if you want to squeeze the little power it has; that means the rider need to learn how to downshit real fast to get going and not waste precious time.

but seriously I gotta say racing cars is a little squidly....

well once a guy in a riced cavalier pulled up next to me at a light and reved his engine.  His GF was rolling her eyes so i new he wanted to race but i wasn't going to.  When the light turned green i just buzzed off, moderatly accelerating.  He kept up with me but i didn't rev at all, all below 7k.  He wouldn't have stood a chance if I wanted to but i have nothing to prove to him.

I will say somehting i like to do though is when a pricy car pulls up next to me i will stay beside them if they try to race me.  Just to let them know i could own them (for a little bit at least)

80 mph + and catching up in the corners and then he would pull away coming out.  I was not over reving and bogging it down either.

If it would have been a drag race I would have taken him but it wasn't.  Guess I will take the car to work tomorrow and fly by him.

Why is racing a car squidly?  I can't race any bikes around here...  they are all faster.

Racing on public roads = squidly

Get your testosterone out on the track and don't risk putting Joe Public in danger -- don't give me any shaZam! about the roads being empty, cap'n fast n' furious, even if there was no one else around when you're street racing you have no control over what crap might be lying in the street or what condition the road is in.  On the bike you don't have a steel cage to protect you, either. What happens if the guy you're dicking around with can't drive for shaZam! and winds up side-swiping you, etc.?  There's too much to go wrong, and you have a wife to go home to at the end of the day.  Grow up.

I do go to the drag strip, in my car.  And yes I do drag race on the street.  I have ever since I got my license back in 1991.

"cap'n fast n' furious" get a life.

Are you saying that you NEVER have street raced?  Not even a stop light race or an occasional run up into the triple digits?  Ever get above the speed limit on the interstate or passing another vehicle?

I bet you have.

The same crap that can happen on the street can happen on a track too.  Riding the same road, same track, etc is like riding around on the old fashioned cars at Kings Island.

BTW my wife is usually with me when I race and she gets mad if I lose.  She even bought my N2O kit for my car, for the challenged and F&F people N2O is NNNAAASSSS.... :nana:

that weird, one of my best friends owns a 2004 Z24 cav, and not once, but everytime we go at it hes not only behind, but quite a ways. One thing though, the GS doesnt have high end power. If you were to race him from a dead stop you would for sure beat him, if not, geez, getur bike looked at, lol.

Well...with a bike...you probably won't harm other people..mostly yourself...so if your into that kinda stuff go for it.

I just think a competitive attitude on the road is dangerous.

When two cars race, the one who wins beats the other car.

When two bikes race, the one who wins fought the track harder.

If your going to push yourself...looks at whats under your rubber not what some dude and his girlfriend in a car next to you are doing.

but hey...those are just my thoughts..do as you please.

Nope.  Life is full of chances.

When it is your time to go it's your time to go.  Whether it be by hitting a deer at 120 mph or walking out of your house and slipping on wet grass and getting impaled by a pink flamingo or concrete goose. ;)

Bungee jumping, rock climbing, white water rafting, parachuting, racing is all dangerous.  For me It's an adreniline rush, pure and simple.

Some people drink and party thats there pleasure mine is going fast.

This is a rediculously bad way of thinking.  Sure, you could die slipping on the wet grass, but it's more likley you'll die in a motorcycle accident, and the more dangerrously you ride, the more likely you are to die that way.  These are risks you can control, they're not up to fate.  People just say they are to escape responsibility.  It's like playing Russian roulette with 5 bullets in the gun.  You could say "when it is your time to go it's your time to go" all you want, but you could still control the risk by taken 4 of the bullets out (or not playing at all).

That aside, race all you want, I don't give a shaZam!.  But stop using bad logic to justify your dangerous lifestyle.

I do not race all the time.  Yes, I like to drive fast but with people in car I don't.  On the bike I do take it easier than the car, a lot easier.

Bad logic.

I do not call everyones' religious beleifs bad logic.  Everyone is entitled to there own beleifs.

All these people on here talk about riding twisties, hanging corners, and wearing tires from bead to bead.  I talk about dragracing and street racing and I am the one that is talked down to.

I do not race with my kids or other people in my car.  My wife trusts my driving and tells me to race if the occasion occurs.

running wide open in top gear and he still pulled away on a straight stretch.  I can't help it if the bike will not outrun a Cav on top end.  Maybe they should put pedals on the bike to make it go faster. :thumb:

No, I never have street raced.  Yes, when I first bought my Cobra I ran it up to triple digits - at Kil-Kare.  I've tried autocrossing it once or twice too, which was fun (hilarious, but fun).  I'm guilty of driving over the speed limit since I usually cruise at about 75, but I don't race stoplight to stoplight, and I don't respond when people rev at me or ride my ass on the highway, etc.  Why? I outgrew that shaZam! about a year after I got my license. A high school friend of mine was the passenger in a street racing wreck; a buddy of his was running his Integra against a Civic on some back roads and lost it on a corner.  That wreck killed the driver and broke my friends C5 vertebra among other injuries.  He's never walked since.  Both guys had the same "when it's your time, it's your time" attitude that you do.  Had being the operative word.  Yeah, shaZam! happens, bad luck, etc.  My line of thinking is, if it's gonna be your time eventually, why not push it off as long as you can by being as smart as you can about your need for speed.

I have absolutely no problem with you driving as fast as you want on a track where it's meant to be done, same as I don't care if the stunter guys ride on their tanks, do wheelies or stoppies, etc. in empty parking lots instead of the middle of the highway.  I do get pissed when people do that shaZam! on public roads where someone else could get hurt.  It's not like track fees are that expensive - if you're dropping cash on nitrous kits and other go-fast goodies for your car, you obviously have the disposable income to afford runs at the drag strip or some track days on the bike.  Join the SCCA and start auto-crossing, Neons are a great platform for it.

Here's hoping that if you do wind up in a wreck, you don't hurt anyone else :P
