Hey all,

Since I don't own a stock GS500, I have some trouble figuring out what's what.  Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone knew what this is about:

:dunno: Can anyone enlighten me?  I don't think Suzuki would engineer the engine for some random bolt, especially when the one across from it on the left side looks like it's doing something important.

Damn "track bike".

Neutral positioning stopper bolt. Notice the proximity to the transmission gearing?

It does look odd sticking out there.

Did the previous owner paint your frame black?

That is a factory bolt.
Common sense in not very common.

I thought it was a crank case vent.. Isnt that where some people have a small air filter thing?

Is was the crankcase vent on older model GS450's, that share the same cases.
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

good judgement trumps good skills every time.

from haynes manual: it's the bolt securing the neutral detent plunger.

:thumb: Good stuff, thanks guys...  And yeah, the whole frame has been powder-coated black.

I am glad to know that I am not the only one who takes photos of parts on the GS and posts it on here asking "What is this a picture of?"    :thumb: . Good deal.
Richard died in a motorcycle accident that was at no fault of his own.  We lost a good friend and good member of this board.  Though Rich may be gone, his legacy will live on here.

Hey, talk about great GS500 trivia contest -- Name that Part.

Set the digital camera to close up and take unretouched pictures of various pieces.  Gets harder as we start removing the outer coverings.  Things like the Cam chain tensioner or the clutch push rod would really test people's cognitive skills -- especially if removed off the bike.

Alas, I'd never get one right -- I have barely scratched the surface of the bike. Still, would be fun to watch -- perhaps something for this winter to be amused with, while longing for warm sunny days and $2.50/USGallon gas.  :)
