I transferd my plates for my 2004 GSXR 750 to my CBR600RR a couple of weeks ago, since im not using the GSXR. Last night a @$$hole cop followed me for about 3 miles then light it up to pull me over. He said my plate didn't match the bike and He was placing me under arrest. I pulled out my registration from  under the seat and proved I owned the bike and that the plates were valid. How long does it take to transfer plates any of you guy ever had this problem? :guns:

Why do you have to transfer your plates?  Your CBR600RR didn't come with its own plates?  Here in Texas each vehicle I have bought had its own plates, and I never had to transfer anything, just register and pay the taxes.

To be honest, I wouldn't be upset that the cop pulled you over.  Since the plates didn't match the bike, he probably assumed it was stolen.  I hear it's pretty common that someone just steals a license plate to use on another stolen bike.

In most states that I have lived in/heard of, your plate is attached to your name.  When you register a vehichle, they issue you a new license plate.

The reason that this is done (presumably) is to prevent abuse by criminals who would be able to steal a car (which often contain the title and registration), and taking 'legal' ownership of it.

You might want to check to make sure that you don't need a new plate.  When a cop runs it... the name of whomever it was issued to will probably come up.

a registration change, at the DMV/Court house is instant specialy if you already have a valid plate. the cop may know your plate and knows it doesnt match the new colors (i had one of those, stoped me 3 times in 3 weeks) you might want to go check with the DMV WITH ALL your paperwork and ask them.

Here in Michigan it should take 10 minutes at the DMV to do this.

The Plate links owner and the VIN together, so all I'd need to do is take the plate & ownerships and have the make, model and VIN changed.  I'm sure there's a transfer fee involved but it's painless otherwise.  I should walk out with a temporary Title with the official one coming in the mail from Lansing in a week to 10 days.

Shouldn't be too unset at the cop that pulled you over -- he's just doing his job.  (Should be flattered he can tell the difference between a GSX-R750 and a CBR600RR.)  :)

I transferd the title, and the plates to the CBR but it still comes up as a GSXR. it's 35.00 bucks cheaper to transfer a plate than get new ones.

Something about police just riding around running random license plates isn't sitting well with me for some reason.  It was my understanding that you had to actually do something illegal (as in a violation of the traffic/safety code) for them pull you over and THEN run the license plate...  I dunno.  It just seems like some sort of privacy invasion.  But, of course, I'm one of those liberal whackjob loonies : ).

(oh, uh, I guess this is my first post here.  I don't really feel like starting a thread all about mysef, so, hi, everybody.  I don't have a bike yet, but based on my extensive research, I'm hopin' a GS will find its way into my garage in the near future. )

Here in Jersey it's right then and there. the person behind the counter punchs it in and off you go.

In MN for sure, and CA I think, the plate goes with the vehicle. You can't transfer plates, period.

Dude, that sucks. You did everything you were supposed to do. You've registered the CBR in your name by transferring the plates. Someone obviously made a data entry error if it's still in their system as a GSXR.

Like someone said before, I'm surprised the cop even knew the difference. Is the color different enough between the two bikes? Maybe that's how he could tell ..... or maybe he's owns a sportbike.

It is not an invasion of privacy to check a plate of a vehicle. A license plate check only shows who the car is registered to, if the tag is current, and what type of vehicle it is registered to and vin.

sometimes it does take some time for the DMV to update their files.

Also, look on the converse side, what if someone had stolen your bike and changed the plates. You would be grateful to the police for recovering you bike. Dont blame the cop, he was doing his job, and the plate did not match. I'm sure that after you showed proof of registration that you were released from custody.

I would be sure to go to the DMV and make sure that everthing has been updated.

PS.. Enecks PM me some time, we can ride if you want...I am in Allen.
