First off, great job on the write-up and pictures Dave!    Really top notch stuff.  This will probably be the first mod I do to my GS.

QuoteThe way I understand it is that the resistor acts like another bulb so it is installed between the two wires that would go to the turn signals.

If the resistors act like another bulb, can I just leave the factory turn signals in the loop and ignore the resistors?  Or would I need a smaller resistor?  I'm not looking to remove the factory signals, but rather to supplement them with the blinking taillight.

Thanks amigo. I got no feedback and was afraid that nobody saw it.

I did not install resistors. I just did the write-up exactly as it was written. The only thing that is screwy is that the signals blink faster when you have the brakes and signal on simultaneously. Did I spell that right? Anyways, it's no big deal.

One thing I thought of after the fact was making it super-custom and adding an amber bulb in the cluster for the signals, just so they would really stand out. But I am pleased with the results. One thing I am working on is turning the lens cover into 2 individual sections. Similar to an R1 I believe? So that rather than illuminating 65% of the lens cover when the signal is on, it would only illuminate the half it is in. More news at 11...

Thats sounds really cool.  I'd be interested in that update.  :thumb:

What I'm doing is (prepare for the SE PDX ghettoness) using 2 coffee cups over the bulbs as a mock-up. Cut the ends off and put in the cover, just to see how it looks. From there, I'm gonna try and find a cover that I can mod to fit or make a clay mold inside the current cover and form it myself. We'll see... who know what I'll think of when I'm drinking.

Okey dokey. So I am all done with the work I needed to do. Here are the shots of what I did:

I wanted shorter signals. The LEDs didn't work for me, so I searched for some that would. And by "searched for some", I mean I walked into Cycle Gear and got the cheapest pair that looked like they would work. Here they are next to the stockers:

And here is the bike (pre-washing, may I add) with one of each:

A few notes. One, I put tinfoil on the inside of the bulb housing to make them brighter. It worked, as they look brighter than stock. Also, I got the Cycle Gear mailer this week, and these and other similar signals are on sale for $3 rather than $12. Not sure if it's only online or in-store, by the way.

So, I also did a fender elimination and taillight integrator:

As you can see, the fender is gone. However, I cut it up and taped in such a way that there is still plastic under the seat, so the wiring's not all exposed.

I tinted the windscreen black with Krylon Fusion Black paint dye. I know, the Suzuki script is fading. I'm gonna cover it with a Suzuki sticker. And the screws are not there on the screen; again I know. I need to go to the dealer and get some more.

And that's what I did. Here are two more shots. I hope you all like it; I love it.

By the way, don't fret: the houses in the pictures are not leaning, I just tilted the camera to make the bike straight in the pics  ;)

Finally got a chance to do the rear signal integrator mod on my 04F.  I couldn't find the reese part you listed, but did find a version that Hoppy makes.

For the turn signals I didn't cut them, but spliced into the hot line leaving the stock signals functioning on the bike.  I hooked up everything, including the ground and running light.  Some sites suggested not hooking up the ground and running light, such as here.  :dunno:

Anyway, the mod worked, kinda.  The stock turn signals still work fine, but the brake light turn signal is really dim until the brake is pressed.  I guess the integrator isn't getting the full voltage it needs because of the stock signals still being in the loop.  :dunno:  This setup did fix the fast flashing problem, the signals flash at the normal rate no matter what.

If I remove the ground and running light from the hoppy plug will it make any difference on the dim turn signals?  How about if I pull the turn signals ground line up to the hoppy plug?  My guess is that the voltage for the turn signal is being split between the hoppy plug and the factory turn signal bulb, causing it not to light brightly (Parallel circuit, instead of series?).  Kinda wierd though that the factory turn signal is still bright...

That website is awful. All of the sentences were cut off. Did anyone else get that?

You should have dyed the shorties black before install...  The white looks cheeky.

I like the white. I first thought the same thing you do, but then I noticed that I liked the whites with the white paint on the fairings. I'm not mad at them.
