Anyone ever ridden with a broken or bandaged apendage? I see people at the track/events hobbling around all the time - I am presuming they got there somehow and there usually isn't many cars around!!!

I tripped and fell walking down the sidewalk about 5 years ago and broke my left wrist rather badly.  Had surgery to put a steel plate in to repair it and was able to wear a removable cast after that.

Started ridng again 2 weeks after surgery only because I still had my old CM400A Hondamatic w/o a clutch.  My fingertips stuck out of the cast enough to hold onto the grip.  It was about 6 weeks till I could pull the clutch enough to ride my GS500 again.

When I was hit on the 97 GS a couple years ago and got a broken left collarbone I started riding again in 2 weeks also.  The collarbone never healed.  My wife had a total fit both times but she got over it.    :thumb:

Saw a guy on a sportbike a few years ago that had a external fixitor on his left wrist to support a broken bone that was healing.  That's a device that attaches to the bone on both sides of the break with a rod outside the skin to support the healing break.  Bikers are a foolish lot.

Wow GS jack!

I am getting surgery on my right ankle in two weeks and will be in a cast for 8 weeks - was wondering if that would work - I only have about an 8 mile commute to work, no real hard rear braking : ) I don't want to end my riding season, but I also don't want to be foolish! (Yes, I know, I am for even considering it :) )

I rode home from Hardees one night (less than 1 mile), with one hand.  I wasn't sure if it was possible, but my milkshake was so delicious I couldn't throw it away.  I wouldn't have even attempted this except that at 3 in the morning in a small town I was the ONLY vehicle on the road.  I actually used both hands, cause I had to swap which hand had the milkshake, depending on whether I was stopping or going.  Getting the bike rolling without the throttle is kinda exciting.  I don't recomend ANYONE do this, and I highly doubt there will be a repeat performance, but it was quite an experience.

If after you have a walking cast (robo-boot) instead of a traditional cast, I think you should be alright riding, of course if the stuff hits the fan you are more likely to get hurt.  I say go for it, only if you have a walking cast.

However, I value milkshakes over safety, so why should you listen to me.  The milkshake was incredibly delicious and was strawberry, by the way.

hey oppy, get  a nelson riggs tankbag. the carry handle doubles as a slurppe holder while riding. I've been known to enjoy a good slurpie while riding.

I've got a tankbag and my backpack has cup-holders, unfortunately I was sans both that night.  Maybe I should've prefaced the story, with this girl who I WAS interested in gave me a call and wanted to hangout and watch a movie at HER place.  My brain wasn't thinking I'd go home alone, with just a milkshake for company.  However, I'll take the milkshake over that girl everyday for the rest of my life.

When I had my hand pinned and still in the cast, I wanted to take my Savage just around the block.  I got it out of the driveway and was in agony.

For a foot in a cast... well, you're going to have decreased range of motion, ergo decreased control of the bike.  OTOH, feet are blunt instruments on bikes, so you might be able to get away with it.  My only beef - if you can't fit gear over it, give it a pass.

Someone on the F650 board told of a guy he met on a ride who had his right leg amputated in the past.  He rode a normal bike - he just used the front brake only.
