I cant seem to figure out how to install my new napoleons. I know some of you have installed them so can you help me out? The problem is that the napoleons need a hollow bar to fit in, but my bar has the thing that the bar end weight screws into in the way. see the pictures below

so how can I remove this piece?
thanx for any advice.

search Srinath's handle bar posts about which bars had the threaded inserts in them. then replace the bars with stock ones from the years that didn't have the threaded inserts.

wish I could help ..... I am also interested in knowing.

1. Drill out the weld...
2. Drill out the whole thing (would take FOREVER)...

Or do what I did when I changed from '01 bars to '99 bars...

Get a shorter bolt.   :thumb:

Look at the '99 parts page...  I picked up '99 bolts from Suzuki and my '01 bar-ends fit perfectly.  You can also go to Tacoma Screw for them.  Don't bother with Home Depot.  Metric is not something they bother with.

RVertigo

You might be able to use the bolts from your old bar-ends...   :dunno:

I thought about doing that but I would need to hack off this piece of the napoleon.

dose anyone know where I can get a cheep hollow bar?
or dose anyone have a bar from a 2000 or newer bike they would like to sell?

Cheap hollow bars are at nearly every stealership...  < $20.

You could probably sell your current bars and recoup some of the cost for better bars.

Bluebellylint

ThanX for the advice.
The problem is now solved, I went and bought a bar for $13 from a steelership :o . while I was at it I thought I might as well get a lower profile bar because sock one is so high.
below are some pics of the new bar compared to the old one. they call this bar the "Drag Racer Bar"

Looks good, but how comfortable is it with the new bars?  Looks like your wrists would be at a bit of an odd angle.

Finally got a good job.  Hooray me!!!

I still love beer.  Hooray me!!!

It took a little while to get use to but I like it now. I am 6'1" and I always thought the bars were to close for me making me sit up, but now it makes me lean forward for a more aggressive stance.

Does it vibe any worse w/o the bar ends?

Yes I think it does vibe a little worse. I dont really feel it in my hands but I can see it in my mirrors.

Also a word of caution to any one thinking of getting bars like these. The break line doesnt have as much clearance as it once did so you cant rotate the lever down as far as you might like.

The ProGrip 719s cut some of the vibes...  Then there's always the barsnake thing...  Or the "fill it with BBs" idea.

:dunno:

Bluebellylint

:o "Fill it with BBs!!!"  :o

Really the vibe is not bad enough to bother me
