Looks like it's an '89... Clips ons...  Less than 8,000 miles on it.  Sweet!

The Manager asked around and the person that's been here the longest says it was sitting in that exact spot when he got here several years ago.  The license plate has been removed...  The rear wheel isn't turning freely...  There's rust on the tank...  From the looks of it, it's been dropped several times.

Too bad it's pretty damn screwed up.  Someone would have to really love this thing to get it running again.  It's pretty well toasted...  Some pics:

Sorry the pics suck...  Picture phone.

pantablo

interesting find. I wonder how complicated it will be to get it running? if it doesnt roll freely in neutral....

ask the manager if you can file with the DMV to claim it as an abandoned vehicle, and then sell it for parts - I'll take the clip-ons and top triple (if you don't want 'em) and the front wheel and rotor

roguegeek

Do that! I'll take the front and rear wheel for a reasonable price.

I don't think it's in gear...  I think the brakes are stuck...  I haven't molested it enough to really know though.  It's in pretty sorry shape.  I think someone would have to have quite a bit of love to get it running.

I was kinda pinging to see what the interest was...  If someone would want to fix it up I could give them all the info to take care of it.  I'm sure I'd have to post a note on it and other due process crap to make sure it really is abandoned (I'm about 85% sure it is)........

I was also thinking about parting it, but I was kinda hoping it might make a good fixer-upper for someone with a love for GSs...  Since Seattle seems to have a shortage of them.

It might just be too far gone to fix up...   :(   The clip-ons need new bars, they're bent.  But, the actual tripple looks to be ok...  But, what do I know?   :dunno:

Just thought I'd post what I know since I've talked about it a few times already.  I think RG or Bluebellylint know more about this crap...  I think my desk knows more than me too...

NightRyder

wow.  :o

I would think that after being dropped alot, the rotors might have been bent, and the brakes probably seized. Even with that, does anyone think that the engine would go bad? (I'm trying to talk myself into a free project bike :)... not that I have ever fixed up a bike )

If the manager of your building knows the tenant that left it there, there is a way you could lay claim to it (at least in Missouri).

There is an abandonment statute (here, and there may be one there too).  You need to send written notice of abandonment to the tentant that left it there to their last known address (with boiler plate language).  There last known address is probably at the apartment there, which is okay.  Then post a copy of the notice on the property.  Send the notice return receipt requested and regular mail.  When it comes back, keep the envelope unopened.  You actually only need ten days notice before declairing the property abandoned.

:o Woah, 107,043 Miles on a bike? I didn't think that would ever be an issue.

Yeah...  That's what I was thinking...  Take it up with the state, wait for notice...  Cheap parts/fixer-upper bike.

I seriously don't think it has 108,000 miles on it...  It looks like someone bought it, trashed it, crashed it, and ditched it.  If you saw it in person you'd see that it doesn't have the type of wear that 108, 000 miles of love give it...  It's the "I'm a jackass and don't take care of my bike" type of wear.

Well, it wouldn't be totally free...  You'd have to pay the state all the title BS and deal with moving it, etc, etc...    Then the cost of fixing it.  :o

I dunno...  :(   I just hate to see that poor '89 rotting away there.

The rust line on the tank shows where the gas level is/was.

Dammit, I've been looking for some '89 bars and clamp for a LONG time now :( That sucks I didn't get here soon enough. Ah well, if you do get it and part it and Jazzz decides he doesn't want those, I'll call dibbs.

If I had a few hundred bucks and lived closer I'd seriously consider trying to fix that thing up. Plus I've got a spare engine lying around. Bummer.

Wow! #243! It would be a crime to let it go in pieces if at all reworkable.

The good news is that it was inside. It would be a project like my 90, except that the neglected fluids might require large scale cleaning of the engine. The tank may be done for. For sure it would need POR-15 or Kreem work. The carbs definitely would require a major rework.

The rear wheel may be a frozen/rusted chain. If the rear caliper pads were worn away prior to abandonment, the plates may be rusted to the rotor. The calipers will probably need rebuilding also.

With a day job, some steady eBay shopping, some GSTwin trading, it could be done. Of course I look at it as a restoration project.

Rattle can custom work is much quicker.  :)
