So, I dropped my bike yesterday.  Ug.     Of course, I have to drop it on the opposite side than where the previous owner dropped it.  Sheesh.  I was at the gas station, just filled up, and was taking it off the center stand.  Guess I was leaned too much cause as soon as it dropped off the stand, it was falling.

But all noobs do it, so no big deal, right?

The guy filling his cage at the next pump was really helpful and came over to help me pick it up.
him: Grinning stupidly. "Wow, this thing only weighs about half as much as my Harley."  :)
me: "really."
him:"Yeah.  No way would I ride this thing.  Sportbikes will kill you." :nono:
me: "It's only a 500cc twin."
him: "Yeah, but it's so light."
me: ...   .... "Well, thanks."

I tried to be very polite.  I mean, he saved me having to call someone to come help me pick it up.

Had like 5 other guys walk over to me and ask if I was alright.  Very chivalrous of you gentlemen, thanks, but I dropped the bike, not myself.

The Grilled Cheese suffered the usual damage.  Scratched fairing, scratched case (now matches the other side). Scratched mirror.  Broken brake lever.  Bent screw on bar end.  Broke something top front of fairing (had to snap it back into place, now sticking out a tad).  Bars all dislodged (didn't realize how bad they were tweaked till I took off down the street--had to do some creative crutch grabbing).  Hubby reminded me that this is why I bought a *used* bike to learn on. ;)

I remember the first time I droped my GS first I got up and looked around like "did anyone see that?" but no one was there to see it, but I still felt stupid

One of our customers is a Harley guy, and he gave me the same grief. I ignored him. I'm not the one who's had to have her skull cut open several times due to drunken crashes!

I've dropped my bike too many times to count. I think only my bf has ever seen me, and he's been kind.  ;)

+1 on that's why we got beginner bikes!  :thumb:

I've dropped / knocked mine over a couple times.  Getting kinda used to it  :P . Luckily, I can pick it up myself. But that doesn't mean I don't feel like a fool afterwards

Fascinating. I don't get embarassed anymore when I drop my bike...I guess I'm just used to it.

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

After many years of riding you become very proficient at falling over gracefully and NOT scratching your bike.

 Can we join if the purple is there, but covered by ugly black spray paint? My GS is about 1/4 purple now.  :dunno:

He has a perfect purple bike, AND he can drop it with grace. I'll never be able to come anywhere CLOSE to dropping mine gracefully... I'm unworthy...  :(

dont thing ive not owned AND ridden that i havent droped.  hell, even ate it 4x on my XL250R and only been riding that for couple months, but im not new. then again bald knobbie up front doesnt work on dirt roads/mud. but gotta say works well for what its got. i just need a real early 80 XR250R carb.

oh, by the way, even with my knee messed up (surgicly repaired this morn) its light enough to pickup off the ground completely

I know if I ever put the bike up on the centerstand I'd have a hell of a time getting it down by myself without dropping it. Tried it once before and I dropped it of course, it was into the grass luckily. So the next time I tried to do it I decided I'd just put it into gear and ride right off the stand! Didn't work... my 150lbs. wasn't enough, even though I was half on the passenger seat bouncing up and down hoping I'd get some grip. Now I just stay on the bike while I'm at the gas station to keep it level.
