Just curious how you folks transport your passengers helmet when the passenger isnt there yet. I usually put my arm through it but this get annoying and soar. Anybody?

pandy

I make him put it on his own darned head and ride his own darned bike!   :nana:

Sorry....don't have an answer for you, but I just couldn't resist.

:woohoo:

Phaedrus

I put my spare/passenger helmet under my cargo net on the passenger seat when I am transporting it. And of course, on the passengers head when they are on the bike  :P

But the cargo net works great  :thumb:

I just secure the helmet to the bike using the hook under the seat.  I usually carry it just in case and it doesn't bother my ride to have it sit there.  My $0.0599 (adjusted due to gas prices).

I'm going to open the can of worms and state that I prefer to bungeenet the cat to the seat, instead of using the helmet hook, because I don't want to subject the helmet to additional vibrations through the bodywork, as opposed to the extra cusion of being on the seat. But, now that I think of it, Snell ratings are so strenuous that I may consider hanging a Snell rated helmet by the seathook. I wonder if that'll stress the strap?

I put it under the seat.

Seriously, on a bike, I'd feel a lot better about bungeeing it to the seat than hanging it.  The latter puts a lot of stress on the helmet strap, while the former distributes it evenly.

Alphamazing

Yeah, bungee nets are nice and all and the helmet won't have the strap stressed when hanging, but don't bungee nets rub the paint?

Some of us don't HAVE bungee nets either... Or need them. I don't ride with passengers.

I thought about using the under the seat hook helmet holder thing, I think the helmet would thrash around ALOT and scratch up the paint, mabye im just a bit to agressive with it :P Where can i get one of these bungee nets? and at what cost?

I bought mine for 99 cents. 99 cents! They are so cheap, only a fool would NOT have one  :P

For what it is worth, according to my owner's manual, it says: "Warning: Riding with a helmet fastened to the helmet holder can interfere with rider control. Never carry a helmet fastened to a helmet holder. Fix the helmet securely atop the seat if you just carry it". (2004 GS500F manual, Page 23)

How it directly interferes with rider control I am unsure, but it probably does in one way or another  :dunno:

I got mine really cheap, but the others ones I've seen range from $10 and under. The local shop has them for around $5, eBay has them really cheap often, they are around! I wouldn't pay more than $10 for one since they are so cheap, but to me, they are worth their weight in gold.  :thumb:

weaselnoze

i went through 3 nets in a summer due to placing huge items such as helmet underneath.  they stretch out like a french whore

Well then next time be smarter.  Instead of going through 3 nets... the next time one stretches out, buy TWO new ones and hook them together in order to secure the helmet without over-stretching either one of them.

For the record... I transport a passenger helmet under a cargo net.   The way I ride, it would get banged around a LOT on that passenger hook.  I would also be worried about the buckle eventually wearing through the fabrice on the chin strap, rendering the helmet useless for any kind of collision hard enough to knock it off my head (which is when you'd REALLY REALLY need it).

fettcols

I've tried it both ways... It's much better to use the cargo net. $5 from walmart... When I got rear ended I had a helmet hanging from the hook. It shot about 35 feet into oncoming traffic..

Not that I've seen.  For one, they're fabric; for two, you're looking at the stress distributed over many cords, not just one on one place.
I got a nice net for $10 that has plastic hooks and is big enough to put over a helmet.  If you have to stretch yours too much - as suggested, get two.  You don't have to pull it tighter than a corset to get it to stay; just enough tension to keep the helmet in place when you grab it and wriggle it.

It's already been said, but...

WAL*MART

By the way you can now buy DOT approved helmets at Wal*Mart.  That is kinda scary to me.  I mean Wal*Mart clothes, shoes, and stuff in general is kinda cheaply made.  I just don't trust Wal*Mart with my noodle. :o

+1 on the cargo net, plus I also buckle the chin strap underneath the grab handle at the rear of the seat. My spare is a Bieffe with a snap buckle, so it's easy to buckle and unbuckle.

You can also get adjustable cargo nets, like mine. You can make it bigger or smaller depending on what you want to carry. Granted, it is kind of a pain in the ass and is a lot easier to just stretch it..haha. But still, you can get adjustable ones.  :thumb:
