Hey, I'm interested in getting a bike, but I have one slight problem: short legs. I'm only 5'2" and my feat can't even touch the ground. I'm a girl who is really wanting to learn, but I need lots and lots of info and fast because I don't want to sit Buddha Loves You for longer than I have to. Someone already suggested getting a bike lowered when buying, but what other options do I have?

davipu

last time I checked, that was the PASSENGER seat, and you can lower the bike, shave the seat, or grow taller.

Take the MSF, get some boots that give you a few inches, buy a GS, be happy!!!

If all else fails consider a cruiser or hybrid, about four or five years back Yamaha discontinued a 535cc shaft drive that was something between an all-out cruiser and a roadster. it is a very popular bike with ladies and the vertically challenged over here. There have been quite a few threads about lowering the GS and seats in the past, have a trawl around with search. DON'T GIVE UP we have quite a few members who have this problem but manage to ride safely.

In Cricket the testicular guard, or Box, was introduced in 1874. The helmet was introduced in 1974. Is there a message??

the GS isn't so high.... I'm a girl, little taller than you, but I touch the ground comfortably, with the whole feet, and my legs are bent.
Try to sit on a GS (ask a friend...or go to a dealer), in my opinion you won't have many problems. And even if you touch the ground only with the tip of your feet, it's not this BIG problem, just take some time and get used to it.

As Cal suggested, the GS500 has made a lot vertically challenged people a great bike.  I think Roadstergal is about your height.  PM her or wait until she notices this thread.

There's several little things that can be done to lower this bike and make it ridable for you.  :thumb:

you might want to check out a buell blast.  they have a very low seat heights.  some other buells come in "low" models.  like other said, the gs can be lowered, and you can also have the seat modified to make it even lower still.

good luck.

i have a problem with the Buddha Loves You seat too.  everytime someone is in it, and i hit the brakes my f%$king nuts get crushed.

also check that the tires are stock...ie front 110/70 back 130/70...i changed mine from 110/90 and 140/90..made a ton of diff for a short dude like me

you can reupholster the seat, taking some stuffin out to lower the seat itself.

you can install lowering links to lower the bike-affecting handling in ways you may or may not notice.

you can try the bike first-the rear shock is soft and will lower the bike on your weight alone. dont just go by the listed seat height.

you can just ride the bike and not put your feet down when you're riding. at stops, just shimmy to one side a bit to get one foot down.

Thanks all for the good advice...   You guys rock!! I'll continue to research and let ya'll know what I do when I buy...

Shave the seat.

Tall (not high-heal) boots...

If it's still too tall after that, you can lower it...  But, that will mess with the side/center stand operation (I hear)...

There should be several threads about seat height and lowering...

I don't know, but is a Ninja 250 lower? Might be something to check in to as well.  :dunno:

I think it's safe to say that if you need to tuck just to reach the grips...you need a smaller ride.  I haven't been able to figure out how one might work the gearshift in those boots.  I also expect that they don't get on the rear brake that much.

GS500F in BLUE because that's the COOLEST color!

Roadstergal

You've got an inch on me.  I recommend shaving the seat over lowering.  If you have an '01+, you need to shave off the annoying side wings on the seat that bow your legs out.

If you're wedded to flatfooting, you're better off with an EX250 or a Blast.  I can get the ball of one foot down on a GS, and call it good.
