Good set of replacement mirrors?

So I've put off buying replacement mirrors for my GS for too long now....the time is now!  

I've been looking around at some Napoleon mirrors, but I was wondering what other makers are out there that produce quality mirrors? Been thinking about chrome mirrors.....but then I'd probably wanna buy a smaller pair, which will decrease my vision.

What I'm looking for are some suggestions on mirrors you guys are familiar with or currently use yourselves (other than stock). Thanks!

Then again jetwing of it was a waste of your time why post at all. I hate people that tell them to search either answer or dont.I think everyone knows how to search and when you ask a ? they dont say search or you dont want them to.Sorry just my 2 cent. SV or Burgman (I think they fit) mirrors.

They're not bent stalks, they are two piece welded stalks... Look way cooler IMO.

most of times, you can tell by their post whether they have done a search or not. and your be suprised how many people don't know about the search function. or how to use it effectively. i actually think there's a need for a faq on search.

This forum is an awesome resource, but I wish people wouldn't be so adamant in insisting that nobody re-create a post that has already been covered at any time in the past.

This particular example had several previous threads (so is kind of a bad example), but often times, "old-timers" will see a new thread asking a question, and remember a thread a few months ago where that same question was discussed. They will then tell the "stupid newbie" to run a search, rather than "waste their time". Often times though, this is pointless. There have been several times when I've run a search and found nothing covering the topic. Upon creating a thread, someone yells at me for not searching, and then links to some ambiguously named thread, where the answer was buried on page 5. How was I supposed to know I can find info about brake pads buried in a thread titled "Check out my new ride, yo!" (just a made up example).

The bottom line is that there are going to be repeated questions. People need to realize this, and either ignore them, or provide the information they're seeking. Plus, if there's 1 thread out there with the info this guy needs, you can give him that info in this thread, and then there will be 2 (thus making search results better, and reducing redundant threads).

It's fine to insist people run common searches and read the FAQ, but jumping on someone every time you see a repeat question just drives people away. Either politely point them to the place where they can find the info, or don't post at all. Posting a snide "run a search, newbie!" response without bothering to actually help them find the info they need is just ridiculous. What is this, a high-school clique? Are you TRYING to drive away potential new members?

I know I'm relatively new to these forums myself, but as an experienced veteran of several forums (mostly automotive), this is the biggest thing that kills a community.

I just bought a GS-500. I'm really excited to meet others with the same bike, and make new friends. However, I've posted a couple times and was rudely told to run a search (which I already did, to no avail). Already, I'm at the point where I avoid making new posts because I feel shunned by the community. How does this help anyone?



PS: As far as this thread goes... my GS-500 came with SV mirrors on it. I don't like them so much (they look a little goofy to me) but apparently the guy before me really liked them. Keep in mind, I've never owned a bike with the Stock Mirrors, so my opinions are skewed

i fully understand your position. but asking someone to run a search is not a outrageous or discourteous request. otherwise, the rest would have to run searches and post the answers. we're simply saying there are answers out there. if i have time, i'll even run searches and post the results. and majority of time most of us do assist in ones with questions.

and no one is calling anyone a "noob" here...i was once a noob (and still am). i don't remember if anyone had told me to run a search or not. i probably couln't recall because it wasn't a big deal to me.

i'm just an avocate for searching. it's the best thing on this forum!

in the future, i'll say "please"...ok, probably not  :mrgreen:

I would really like to see some pictures of interesting mirrors.  I checked
out those threads turned up by the search and nothing jumped out at me,
not a big fan of round mirrors....

If anybody has cool rectangular  (non stock) mirrors, please post pix.

Syphon - Very, very well said   For what it is worth, I think some of the search nazi's need to stop being lazy and create a GS500 FAQ that answers the most Frequently Asked Questions if it really bothers them. The search function leaves a lot to be desired.

As for the mirrors, I second the motion to see some unique, interesting mirrors installed.

Don't get the EMGO round black ones.  They vibrate so much that you can't make out what's behind you.  The glass on the ones I had came loose and started rolling around inside the plastic frame.  

No wonder they were only $6.95 each.

I was actually looking at some chrome Emgo mirrors, but if they're likely to have that crappy of a build, fuhgettaboutit! I've spotted quite a few nice-looking chrome mirrors, but most of em have a short little stem that will make seeing anything behind me impossible.
