streetfighter?

I keep reading and hearing this word more often. what does it mean?
Some argue about how certain bike has a 'streetfighter' look to it. Also, I recently watched the latest ghostrider movie and there's a part where he chases a 'streetfighter' on a yamaha... I mean, wtf!?

what qualifies as streetfighter? what does it mean to be or ride streetfighter?

are we talking about the same thing?

Street fighter is the term lent to a style of custom motorcycle which originally had fairings that have since been removed. In more recent years, the term has also come to be applied to motorcycles intentionally built (by the originating firm) without fairings, usually from the same engine/frame combination as a full-faired or partially-faired offering in their product line-up.

Generally Race Reps (Race replicas), like GSXRs and CBRs that have been damaged in accidents or through hooliganism are the starting basis for a Street Figher. The plastic fairings are expensive to replace, so many not having the interest or cash to do so opt to leave them off. Replacing damaged components with items from junkyards (or breakers), home made items or parts from other brands/models of motorcycles is also common. Very popular in the UK and Germany it has become a stylistic choice by some, supplanting the original design of the bike with an edgier, rawer look.

Others buy damaged motorcycles as they are cheaper and adopt the street fighter look. These motorcycles generally retain the high performance capabilities of the original design. In fact in the process of part replacement many owners have improved the performance.

Styling hallmarks frequently include: Double round headlights, extreme seating positions highly tilted rear ends (tails) and highly-tilted exhaust systems...

Ironically some examples are so highly customized as to exceed the cost of the orgional repairs. Chrome frames, expensive engine work and custom paint are also seen.

This transition from function over form to form over function mirrors the US chopper evolution.

A cafe racer was a stock bike that was modified with low bars, rear set and stuff like that to make it more like a race bike, a streetfighter is a production race bike made more like a  naked street bike.

Here is my bike which is neither cafe or streetfighter, but splits the difference.

I got this free Buell t-shirt that all it says on the front of the shirt in big letters is "streetfighter". I cant help but think some people must think i think im some sort of bad ass. It says Buell american motorcycles on the back but some people dont see that.

hello I stumbled upon your site while looking for info on DIY ignition advane and I thought I would show you my wife fightered GS. I built the frame to slightly alterd stock specs using the motor as a stresssd member, I made the rearsets, dog bone links, aluminum kick stand, stainless chain guard, fork brace and all the other obvious stuff. It runs the stock tach and a tiny digital pedal bike speedo, no ignals and 2 LED clusters jut behind the shock as tails and the halogen spots up front. Still unsure about the tail, I'v made a fiberglass mold for one that looks simaler to the older R1 but about 30% smaller or I may just cut the subframe off realy short and put some padding on that.

I'v got about 30 hours in the frame including building the jig off the stocker, I couldn't tell you how much time is in the rest of it as it has been in the works off and on  for about 2 years . Most of my frame experiance comes from building tube chassis for circle track cars and rigid "chopper"  frames.
