Goofy landlord....

I rent a house with a  garage ....recently the door (the regular door) needed replaceing as the bottom was rotting out..... I fixed the door so it would still function for awhile til he could replace it...no big deal.

I was even going to get a new door and put it in myself in a few weeks...

Well I just noticed it has a new door on the garage this morning ( was dark when I got home last night from work ) so he must have done it yesterday..

He got a 9 lite door for a garage ( large-ish window  divided into 9 smaller sections...)... Now I'm glad I have a new door... but why not just take the door  off and leave the garage wide open?

Now they ( anyone wanting break in.. ) can window shop and have easier access to my tools, motorcycles etc etc.... When he did the new windows over a year ago he went with the smaller ones (cheaper and better security...) I don't get him....

Oh yeah...the doors with the windows COST MORE too.....

Ughhhhhh.....

Get some latex paint and paint over the inside of the glass.  It can easily be scraped off when you move out.   Ask the landlord first.   At least it will keep asshats from window shopping.

And when you say your prayers tonight, be thankful you have a landlord who actually fixes things!   :thumb:
On those days when life is a little too much and nothing seems to be going right, I pause for a moment to ponder the wise last words of my grandfather:  "I wonder where the mother bear is?"

Well I'm still waiting for a deck and or front steps ( I'm on the water ) to the Door out of the House facing the water ( technically the front door).

Hurricane Isabel did some damage....two + years ago... They took a year + to fix the basement damage...Now over 2 years and I still can't use my door...but that's the owners not the "landlord" ( He manages the property for the owners who live out of State....The Landlord is my neighbor actually..) that's holding this part up.

I'm thinking about some stainless steel mechanics/ Hardware cloth and screw it over the whole window.....Even if they put a hand through it they won't reach the locks to open it...  It'll reduce the visibility through it  too....

Yeah he does fix stuff....depends on how critical it is..( I told him the garage door was a ano hurry-I fixed it for now deal...).

first, a door like that should have a deadbolt that requires a key to throw on both sides. That way, even if you can reach the locks, you still need a key.

After that, I'd just put a curtain of some type up on the inside of the door. By the time someone has broken a window and gone through the effort to move the curtain, they probably would have gone through the effort to just kick the door open without knowing what's inside anyway.

Not to be a jerk, but this should be in O&E

Well I wanted a door with no windows or just the single window at the top end of the door light...

And yeah the kick the door in thing is a given...I'm just trying to not make it too easy to get in the place. I mean between my tools and bikes I have a good bit of  "Money" in there....

He even put new locks on the door....now I just need my new keys...
The double deadbolt thing will probably happen now too...
