Great article , I wonder if SUZUKI will get the hint and pull some parts out of the bin and juice up the 500 a little perhaps 4 valve heads / dual discs / better suspension / fuel injection etc . Any ideas folks ?

Considering ... BObB has a similar one and that bike was actually built over 10 years or so ago, and its an old article too BTW ... I'd say ... NOPE ...
Cool.

This is (old) article that I was thinking of for filpe's "race mods" thread last week but I couldn't find it.

Still a cool bike.

slick article!  too bad they didn't list dyno numbers or anything.  Putting the carbs in the airbox was a small stroke of genious.

Lost of things I don't understand, though...like why is 320lbs, dry, special?  My bandit 400 tipped 320 full of fuel and ready to roll.  My ratbike's even lighter.  Also didn't the article say that he grafted forks from a 91 gix750?  The 750 didn't have inverted forks until the SRAD came around...

Cedric posted here a couple of times when he was thinking about selling the bike.
Common sense in not very common.

I'd imagine that Suzuki has already thought about beefing up the GS500f, but if they're gonna do that, that would defeat the purpose of making the GSXR600 or whatever bike the GS500f is beefed up to...

Just my .02 cents...  (is it really worth that much???)

I guess it comes with the territory of being an "entry level bike"

My guess is the margins on the GS500 are nothing like the margins on the 600s and 750s. If you made the GS too nice, there would be less upgrading.

Anybody have any idea how many GS500F's were sold in '05?? or '04?

My guess is that they will keep it only as long as it doesn't require a major rework.

That's not to say I wouldn't welcome a model with a freer breathing engine.  I'd love to see a good 4 valve head on the GS500.  I'm not holding my breath though.

Ive spoken with Suzuki reps about the GS.
They virtually break even on the bike as is. It's mainly an entry level bike to get people into biking and upgrade after a year or 2.
I'd be real surprised to see any major changes in the coming years.
So it's up to us to do the upgrades ;)

Yeah.... R&D costs figure for a lot if you take into account that you've got to pay a TEAM of engineers to think up and design the changes, test the changes.... fix what's wrong, and THEN train your manufacturing workers to make the changes.... and all for what... a bike that will be bought, ridden for a year and then get put back on the market in direct competition with the newer, more expensive GS500's coming out of the factory.

before the srad, check again.

If they would just strap the GSX400 head on (which they already have the tooling to make) puting a new cam grind is simply numbers to them. it would be realy easy to go from Mild to wild and not loose reliability.  still using off the shelf parts pretty much
Accelerate like your being chased, Corner like you mean it, Brake as if you life depends on it.

I stand corrected.  The '91 did have inverted forks.
