Does anyone make exhaust for the 05 gs500f? I clicked the link provided in the "mods" forums to V&H but they dont have any that i seen for the gs500f. and whats  "Slip-on" mean? is that a partial exhaust?

I have an '04f and I've been looking as well..  No one makes em...

You want to send a PM to seshadri_srinath.  He can find an aftermarket can with little modifications needed I think.

BTW, Welcome! :thumb:

yup .. will the earlyer models not match up to it ? looks pretty much the same to me . as soon as i pay the tool guy off i'm gonna save up and get me a V&H :)

If you buy a can that'l fit an earlier model, then have fun using it as a custom ash tray.  The newer bikes (04 - 06) have an extra part right in the front if I remember correctly.  I don't remember what part this is tho.

Let me search a bit into the old posts...

Sorry...  Too tired...  Can't look anymore...

Maybe one of the other regular gearheads can "pipe" in and answer the question.

Vance and Hines did make an exhaust for the GS500....they have since ceased production of this item....there were a few other manufacturers who had some interest (a few even made part #'s) but these never went ahead....

Srinath makes some adapter slip-ons that work with WileyCo bolt on exhausts.....he usually waits until he has a bulk order to make them (20+).....the WileyCo exhausts were available on ebay for a long time, and may still be, as I don't know which make/model/years are best.....some people have bought other aftermarket exhausts and taken them to a local exhaust shop and had them fab'd onto their GS's....

The Yoshimura full system made for the E model won't fit on the F model due to the addition of the oil cooler. The bolts at the bottom of the oil cooler lines into the oil pan don't give the clearance needed for the headers to curve under the engine. I'd imagine the V&H is the same way.

No one makes exhausts for the F model.

A slip on is litteraly that. A muffler and pipe that slips over your stock mid-pipe. A bolt on is a muffler that bolts onto your stock exhaust receiver, which is usually situated at the end of the pipe and terminates at the muffler.

You can usually have an exhaust shop modify any slip on to fit your GS or you can just get one of Srinath's flanges.

Basically, if you want to go out and find an easy replacement for an F model you're out of luck.

HIGH folks as I stated somewhere else you can get a full exhaust to fit all gs 500 at [www.predatormotorsport.co.uk] . They seem to do good work and the price is right. A hand made fully stainless exhaust for 260 pounds but I think they sell slip ons too.   CHEERS!

I love how people chime in with products from the UK. There are so few people that are willing to spend the money to ship to the US. Not to mention if the part does not work out you are stuck with it.....but thank you for for letting everyone know.

Now....for those that are asking....search the internet for a Cobra F1s or a F1r. They are both slip on's and they work great. No re-jetting required and the sound is nice and throaty. The Cobra F1r is the loud slip on and the F1s is a nice tone and screams but is not to over powering with sound. People hear you coming and expect some suped up sport bike but then you show up with your pocket bike on crack. I love my Cobra F1s and it really adds to the look of the bike. The bad thing is that Cobra quit making the slip ons as well. You can still find them on eBay and the net if you look around. I like the Wiley Co. cans a lot but I just don't like how big they look. They sound sweet as hell........you would need to rejet with the Wiley Co. or have a restrictor put in the adapter and that will help you out if you don't want to rejet.

Nice find....just remember...the F1r does not have the sweet looking formula 1 tip on it.....also make sure you get the one for the GS because the one listed is for a Kawa-Socky :flipoff:

They are different from each other...... O0

I have found an after market slip on exhaust for my 2005 GS 500F.  It is made by IXIL (from Spain).  You can get them from Indy Super Bikes.  I love mine and it has no baffles in it, but it isn't offensively loud either.  It sounds really good.  My friend found a Cobra R1S exhaust for his 2004.  He only had to do a little bit of modification on it to get it to slip on.  It is just barely louder than stock however.  I had mine re-jetted and had a Flo-Commander installed and it made all the difference in the low end power of my bike.  The IXIL can, dyno-jet kit, flo-commander, K&N, and the NGK iridium plugs made all the difference in my bike, like riding a different bike.

I noticed my 2005 GS500F has a balance pipe joining the two primary exhaust runners just after the engine block?

Do the older models have this feature?

makenzie71

^every bike with dual pipes from the factory does...or 99% of them, anyway.

gtownsend - do you have a link? price information? photos of it installed? maybe get some sound clips? That would be awesome.  :thumb:

try formula 1 exhausts.
http://www.formula1mc.com.au/
they make a full system for the gs. I have one on my bike, it feels and sounds awesome.
will run perfectly fine with standard jetting & airbox. I have spoken to the owner and he is more than happy to ship systems to the states. they do sell just a slip on can but for the extra $100-$150 aussies dollars its worth going the full system. it comes in either the polished alloy or carbon fibre. i have some pics if your interested. was going to post in gallery but it doesn't seem to be there at the moment.
let me know and i'll send you some pics.
