How about setting up stickies for each state.  That way, users don't have to create a new post each time.  Just a thought. :)

Yeah, thats not a bad idea at all. I've seen on some sites they will have a thread for each state that is used as a "roll call" thread. You just post your information and then use other threads to work out specific meets and whatnot. But with the roll call threads, atleast you know who you got to work with :thumb:

I would say regions may work better than a sticky for every state. bu i too think it's a good idea.

I thought about that as well.

I was thinking that if members wanted to meet and ride, we'd be intelligent enough to know what states border our own.  I live in Western MA but south near CT, so I'm not gonna look for people up north in VT or ME or RI.  I'd only be interested in people in MA & CT areas, maybe NY.

So this is my reason for a 50-state sticky idea.  :)

dunno thats a good idea or not. sounds like you'd have a running single thread for every ride in that state. Or do I misunderstand it?

Individual posts for individual rides stil seems like a fine idea to me. what happens if you've got 2 rides being scheduled at the same time for same or near weekends. you'd have them crossing information post to post.

Just post up a ride and state where its at...still seems easiest.

If we do special rides...like the west coast used to do yearly SoCal rides. we'd sticky that sort of ride until it occured, then unsticky it.

Phae had it right...  Use the 50 stickies as "roll call".

Continue with the individual posts for rides and such.

That way, we at least know how many people in our own neighborhoods.

Yeah, but here in Texas it's a bit different. This is a big state. Let me repeat, this is a BIG state. Hell, I think Texas alone needs to be divided into its own regions!

If you just want to know who is around you, check out http://www.frappr.com/gstwin.

I don't think having individual sub-boards for every state would help much.  There are a lot of boards that have done this and you end up with a lot of two year old "Is anyone here?" posts and others that are just empty.  Besides, it ends up being more hassle for those of us that live in the itty-bitty states (who would go to multiple boards), and not very useful for those that live in the ginormous states.

I think a much better approach is to identify the social groups that actually exist and generate a lot of traffic...like the Austrailian group or the "Northeast Time to Tour PA" group...and create child boards for those.  Seeing as there are groups of people who do 'meet and greet' in a somewhat organized way, having boards for the actual groups would probably be better than creating arbitrary groups by geography.

Just my 0.02.

Yeah, the rider map is good but it isn't always easy to find the people near you. You might have their nick and location, but not everyone leaves a way to contact them and not everyone uses the same Gstwin screen name. And what if the rider map goes down or vanishes? Gstwin.com can't rely on an extrernal link, beyond the control of anyone here, right?  :dunno_white:
