Mine was a 70 Yamaha HS1 90cc parallel twin 2 stroke.  Looked a lot like this -I loved riding this bike.  I had it stored away behind my parents shed and about 6 yeard ago I decided to finally put money into it and restore it I discovered  my dad had junked it about a month earlier.

my goodness...and from a site guru...hahahhah

I learned on an EX250...that was a great experience.  After a few months I bought a tweaked out CBR1000, then sold it back to him 3 days later because it was stupid.  Bored out nearly to 1200cc and a bunch of other crap...not a healthy step.

First actual ride was a 79 YZ100.  First streetbike that I owned solo was a 1983 XJ400 Maxim.  I bought this 2 years after scaring the shaZam! out of myself with the CBR.  I very nearly bought a Bandit 1200 and I still thank the guy today for selling it out from under me a day before I went and got it.

Second ride was my "middle step".  I bought this just to ride for the season and get another ride.

This is a 1986 FZ600.  This was probably one of the best handling rides I'd ever been graced with.  Built FZR 400 forks and front wheel, FZR 400 rear wheel, R6 shock, galfer stainless all around, 320mm discs up front, custom headers and a gp can and a freshly built motor with nifty headwork.  79rwhp and 320lbs.  Bought it for $800.  Hard to beat.

Then I moved on to the TL1000S after the year was up.

Since then I've bought a bunch of other bikes and crap, too...

1983 Nighthawk 650, til she tossed a cylinder.  I don't recomend doing that while in the left lane of a California freeway...

My first rides was a GS 500.  I still have it a year later.  Wow.

I dunno.  I think I am going to step up to a 'Busa in the spring.  I've got about 200 miles of saddle time in on the GS.

1967 Yamaha YCS1 180. Bought it in a box for 150bucks and rebuilt it. Road it for 3 years beofre getting the GS. It's up on the wall of fame somewhere. Looks a bit like John's first bike. If I get my garage cleaned out this spring it's due for a rebuild and repaint. Still a fun bike to ride and you get lots of looks and comments on it.

JakeD-getting your nipple pierced is not crazy. Killing a drifter to get an errection? Now that's crazy!

1975 cb400f. fantastic little i4 400 cc bike. Smooth as can be and fast for a vintage little 400. I took the baffles out of the pipe and it was wonderfully loud. Nice mean sound, almost like a pit-bull bark above 9k. I wish I still had the little thing but alas I had to sell it to buy my gs.

This is not my bike, but it looked basically the same. Mine was a little more bad ass with drop bars, single bar end mirror and smaller turn signals. But it was sold to someone who was going to take good care of it and fully restore it so I don't feel too bad.

First bike was a 1977 KD125. Still have it, although i'm looking for parts for it. First streetbike was a 1976 XS650. Got it when I was 19. Then I got a 72 Triumph 650 that I still have. Lost my license for stupidity(DUI's), but I still picked up a 90 GS500. Hoping to be able to ride by spring.
