Why is fuel coming out of my K&N???

Ok... so i just switched from a stock air box to a K&N pod filter...  I also cleaned out my carbs and put in a washer, 40 pilots and 150 mains... After I installed the parts I took the bike on a ride.  It drove strong but again... it broke up at full throttle!!!  When I turned the bike off I couldn't get it to turn over again.  I parked the bike and saw fuel coming out of the K&N.  I went to dinner and came back 2 hours later.  When I got home (2 hours later) there was still fuel dripping...  What in the world could be going on here???  I'm so confused...

On a brighter note... the K&N with my V&H slip on makes the bike sound REALLY REALLY good... that is... when it runs and isn't dripping gas!

Did you change the routing of the fuel lines, because my first thought is that if you left the fuel selector on "prime" and your floats are stuck open a little then you will get that. Infact, it may be possible that the floats don't have to be stuck and it will still do that.

well... about that.... the guy who owned the bike before me removed the petcock... i can only turn my tank on and off... so my fuel routing is the same all the time... my fuel line goes directly to the carbs from the tank... could my floats be stuck open though???  Would that be caused by one of those hanging weights coming off or something???

150 sounds like a really big main. what year is your bike? my '99 has a K&N and an exhaust and 133's were WAY to rich. Im running 127.5's now, works great.

I checked the "jetting matrix" and it recomends 150 mains and 40 pilots for K&N pod and a slip on... I am curious though... when it says 2 turns... does that mean two half turns (180 degrees)... or two full rotations (360 degrees)??? I'm really hoping to ride tomorrow... anyone else have a suggestion for why fuel would run out of my carbs???

That would be two full (360 degree) turns. Stock main jet size is 122.5 which means that a 150 is 11 sizes up from stock. Thats a pretty big jump. What year is your bike?

When my bike has 133's, in 4th gear and up when revving above 7 or 8 thousand the engine would flood and bog down. Replacing them with 127.5's fixed the problem right up.

Does anybody else have experience with this? I could be wrong.

150 mains were advocated by Srinath, I guess most everyone believes what he says. I always felt 150's were way too big, glad to see that someone else thinks the same. One reason I stay away from jetting threads. Anyway, the size of the main has nothing to do with the flooding.

Other than the floats, there is the float needle and its seat that can go bad or have crap get stuck in it. Also, if the atmospheric equalizer tube is blocked, gas will flood out of the carb. It is the top tee on the carb.

Common sense in not very common.

I've always felt the same way, too.

But yeah, like they say, it's the float bowls drying up. The fuel goes from the float bowls through the jets, which atomize the fuel. So all increasing the mains would do is draw fuel from the float bowls faster (or something).

Just run it in Prime, as it runs fuel directly into the carbs rather than using a vacuum.

Someone should double check that I'm not just pulling shaZam! out of my ass, which I might be.
