Hello everyone,
just wanted to introduce myself formally. I just purchased a 2002 GS500 black/silver paint scheme. It has 8200 miles on it. I actually purchased it from a member of this board (Juno) for $1800. Sound like a good deal?

I'm 21 years old and this is my first experience with a bike. I plan on taking the MSF course to get my license within the next few weeks, whenever i get a breadth away from school work. I do have to admit that I have taken it out for a few spins though and i love it :icon_lol:.

I really hope to learn about this bike inside and out. As an auto enthusiast and modifier I am somewhat mechanically inclined and am very anxious to learn about this engine. So if anyone can let me know about the basics of maintenance of a motorcycle engine I would greatly appreciate it (ie oil and filter change schedule, common problem). Having grown past the era of carburated cars, I don't have experience with working on  them. I would also appreciate it if someone can go over the concepts and "how to's" of the carburator (rejetting).
O, and valve adjustment....whehn should this be done and what does it entail??

This is a great website with a lot of information to share. Keep up the good work everyone.

Terrible deal.  It's so terrible I expect the cops will be at your door soon for stealing it.  I hear the Graybar Hotel has cable and free roomservice.   :icon_mrgreen:   :icon_razz:

Buy and read the Clymer's manual.  I believe they have one that covers the 02.  It has the answers you seek.

Enjoy the new bike, and welcome to the circus!

Oh, and don't take this place, or the "members"  too seriously.   ;)
Every zero you add to the tolerance adds a zero to the price.

If the product "fails" will the product liability insurance pay for the "failure" until it turns 18?

Welcome!

And +1 on GeeP's comment about taking us too seriously.  In my opinion, most of us on this board needs a therapist, but we got bikes instead!
