R1 Untertail muffler on a GS?

What do y'all think about an '04 Yamaha YZF-R1 undertail exhaust muffler on our GS? This would be a custom hack job, but I think it could look pretty awesome, maybe.

Those are the mufflers.

Oh man... and if I could split the pipe into two and give it a sorta Duc S4R exhaust look maybe? What do y'all think?

Or... Getting a shop to cut the headers off before the pipese turn into one big pipe, and then run a dualy exhaust setup?

Come on people, is this plausible?!

...Dammit. What about ease of modification? Think this would be too hard? Getting it to be a shorty muffler shouldn't be too hard: just hack the midpipe and weld this one on, fab a custom hanger bracket (very easy for me to do), and voila, shorty exhaust.

ease of fabrication is entirely up to you.
some can and some pay someone who can
if you can't and can't afford someone who can . . . you ride a stock bike

if you think it is easy...do it

i'm getting better at wheel swaps and tripple tree conversions but can't afford an OCTANE paint job
want Iain's money to support my butt in kens shop

Austin, TX.

I'm going to take a welding class this summer (hopefully) and might be able to do it then, but if not I might have to save up and get a shop to do it. Either that or find someone here on campus who can do pipe work. I dunno, we'll see.

I wish I hadn't sold my old headers now, because I could have hacked them up for test runs with these! Ahhh man! Oh well.

i'm all for hack jobs (you've seen my bike), what about a RGV style setup? http://www.bikez.com/bike/10254/index.jpg kinda that classic suzuki style?
The final measure of any rider's skill is the inverse ratio of his preferred Traveling Speed to the number of bad scars on his body. It is that simple: If you ride fast and crash, you are a bad rider. And if you are a bad rider, you should not ride motorcycles.

I said if before...I'll say it again...

Bring me the bike and I'll make it work.

The biggest things you're going to face are:

No room for the mufflers.
No room for the tubing.

It's going to require gutting and refabricating your tail to fit the mufflers and I would strongly suggest, if you want to pursue this, finding an R1 subframe, seat set and an aftermarket R1 tail fairing set (1pc carbon fiber would look sexy).  These can all be adapted to fit your bike fairly easily.

As far as plumbing it in you're in for some work.  You have almost ZERO chance of making it pretty...but with some work and serious effort you can avoid having a pipe like this:

You'll have to spend a lot of time and work on a lot of bends to get it to hug behind the left peg and gracefully disapear under the seat.

The first thing I would suggest altering with your plan here is the exhaust you want to use.  It will be very costly and difficult.  I'd suggest using a couple of small CF cans.  That way you could likely utilyze your stock tail.  Then use custom plumbing all the way to the manifolds.

No no no no no. Y'all misunderstood me. I was considering using those mufflers as a standard muffler along the side of the bike, starting right after the footpegs. I was NOT considering an undertail exhaust, just using the undertail mufflers. They looked cool, I thought.

OH!

I'd make a full custom job, then.  Bring me your bike and I'll make it.

Get some mandrel U's and a couple sticks of tubing...what I would buy is:

4x 42mm 6" rad mandrel U bends
4ft 42mm tubing
2ft 60mm tubing

Then build it all custom, from the headers back, using the y-pipe and a custom built merge as a collector and run one pipe off either side of the bike.  Cut off the first inch of the stock headers and use the pieces as manifods to bolt to the motor.

If you're considering using both on one side then you'll have to make a new x-pipe, which really isn't hard...or run a true dual...

I still vote for get the stuff and bring me the bike. :dunno_white: :thumb:
