Just wondering if my math is right. sv650/1000 were "new" in 2003, so that means they should get an update for '07 right? I don't wanna buy one this year if that's true--There's a few things I'd liek to see changed

This is assuming that they will change the things you want to see changes... odds of that... survey says!!!!!.....

What will you like to see changed?

For me... now that inverted forks are popular,  I would hold out hope that the now out-dated but much better fully adjustable front suspensions would finally make it to the parts bin.

 is that why we're still waiting almost 20 year for updates on the gs  :icon_rolleyes:
My hunch was right...Pandy is the biggest Post Whore!

Nothing really big that I want changed... but I would like to see a less angular styling, stiffer forks, maybe no steering damper (on the 1000, I don't know if the 650 has one), maybe bigger gas tank...
I know that the sv's are supposed to be cheaper bikes though, so I don't think they will be pumping a lot of money into a huge update--and besides with the money I saved buying an sv versus a ducati, I could always go mod crazy, which may be the funner route anyway.

NO steering damper? I thought they didn't have one already...

More fun.  I think you meant "more fun" route.  :flipoff:

Also, I would like to see upside down forks on the SV, too.

There are some bikes in it's category that get overlooked.  The ZZR, the FZ6, and 650R.

No, I definatley meant "funner"  :flipoff:

I may be mistaken, but I was pretty sure that the 1000 has a steering damper... I would just prefer that it didn't have one so it was a little more flickable... but then again, if it absolutley needs one than I would prefer that it keep it.

I wouldn't classify the ZZR in with the SV. The ZZR is more along the lines of a budget sport bike, or commuter sport bike a la the F4i and YZF600R, and less so the Katana.

The SV is more of the budget commuter with sporting capability, semi-sorta-naked-type-bike. FZ6 (ugly ass fairing), 650R (just rather unfortunate looking), Monster (sex on wheels), and 599 (too expensive).

I check the Suzuki website and it didn't mention anything about a steering damper on the 1000.  :dunno_white:

I like the F4i, the ZZR and the YZF600R.  I'm trying to narrow my upcoming purchase down between those three.  I like the looks of the ZZR the most.  If the FZ6 came with a lower fairing, I'd like it more.  The 599 is a rip off for the price.  It should cost barely more than the SV650 non-S model, if not the same.  And screw the Monster.  You want a Duc just spend a bit more and get a new Sport 1000!

The F4i is a great bike from what I hear and reliable as all holy hell, but a bit on the portly side. The 600R has the most useless speedometer in the world unless you're running well over 100 ALL the time. The new ZZR would be your best bet next to the F4i, but it depends on if you are buying new or not. I think the ZZR got updated in '03 or so, possibly '04. If you couldn't get one of the newly updated ZZRs I'd go with the F4i.

The price they're asking for a new F4i, is it even worth it anymore? I've always loved that bike and have always considered one, but for that price, I'd rather pay the extra $1K and get the 06 GSX-R600 that I'm currently looking at. Actually, I'm pretty sold on it, but I still love the way the F4i feels. I guess a used 2002 with the solo seat could be had for a very decent penny. That'd I'd also consider if I found one that wasn't worked over too hard.

The F4i is $2000 more, at least. I would only buy a used F4i.  The YZF is appealing because it is cheap and it you can get it for $79 a month for two years.  I'm going to have like $3000 to put down on a new bike, so. . . maybe an all black YZF.

And I have been thinking about something you said about the SV.  I'd be willing to bet that the SV has harsher ergos and sharper handling than the ZZR, and 600R.  What is the difference between a fully faired SV650S and a ZZR or 600R other than the engine configuration?

The ZZR is carbed, while the SV is FI.
The ZZR has semi-floating rotors, while the SV has full floating.
The ZZR has 300mm front rotors, while the SV has 290mm.
The ZZR has a 220mm rear rotor, while the SV has a 240mm one.
The ZZR has a 46mm fork though, while the SVs is only 41mm.
The ZZR has fully adjustable front and rear suspension, while the SV is rear preload only.
The ZZR is ride height adjustable, the SV is not.
The ZZR has a wheelbase of 55.1 inches, while the SVs is 56.3.
The ZZR has a dry weight of 377lbs, while the SV has a dry weight of 372lbs.

Each has its ups and downs. Fully adjustable suspension v. FI, V-Twin v. I-4. Both are extremely capable machines and both  a great value for the money. It really just depends on what you want.

I'd be willing to be that the SV is a better track day bike and the ZZR is a better commuter.

Which isn't an invitation for you to do an hour of research.  Just throwing that out there.

I dunno. I have read at least 3 reviews of the '03 sv1000s that mentioned a steering damper... maybe they lost it after that year or that was a Euro version of the bike... I can't find any more info on it than that.

Alphafire didn't your dad turn his FZ1 into a naked bike?  Did he use Yamaha parts or third Party parts?

Yes he did. He tried using Yamaha parts, but couldn't find anything in Europe for cheap.

He used an SV650 headlight mounting setup. SV has 41mm forks, and the FZ has 43mm ones, so he had to file dwn the tubes on the mounting brackets. He fabricated his own guage holder out of 6061 aluminum, as well as something to hold the horns and regulator.
