Hello all,

my bike is acting up and I can't pin point the problem.  It starts fine with the choke on, but after a couple of minutes it starts losing power.  When I try the throttle at this point it makes matters worse and kills my engine.  I was told it might be the gas cap (clogged) so I opened the tank to isolate the problem but nothing.  Today I checked the petcock the fuel valves and even took apart the carb and everything looks fine.  Any ideas.  thanks for your help

Does it idle and/or rev without the choke before it warms up?  Did you check that the jets were clear?  Did you notice a tickatickatickaticka sound?

Before warming up, without the choke it will not start.  Jets appeared clear.  When its hard to start I do hear the sound you mentioned.  I thought maybe the diaphragms were faulty.  I actually found one pinched this morning.  after correcting this I got the bike starting again.  but unfortunately a few minutes after I get the same thing: namely a dying engine...

leaking vacuum between the engine and carburetor.
check item : 21 or replace it.

I do hear the sound you mentioned.

That's probably your valves.  Chances are that one or more of your valves has very little or no clearance.  As the engine warms up, the clearance decreases even more, causing your valves not to close.  This will cause the symptoms you describe.  This needs to be fixed ASAP before you burn a valve, if you haven't done so already.

Here's Kerry's valve adjustment video on Google video.  It's a very nice explanation, but it's very large.  It's also available for download, but you'll have to search the site for the link.

Edit: Here's a valve adjustment tool.  http://www.motionpro.com/motorcycle/tools/product/valve_shim_tools/

I didn't concur.  A vacuum leak should cause it to run like crap all of the time, not just when it's warm.  While it's a good idea to check the intake, and anywhere else for vacuum leaks, I didn't think that it was the case in this instance.

I was being facetious.  its a bit from the movie "catch me if you can" with LEO dicaprio and tom hanks.
in which the guy plays a conman playing a doctor.

I just thought it was funny how not only did he know the problem he provided a fiche on what part to replace. provided the symptoms originally posted were vague at best.
forum mechanics......I guess I'm one too. I've been wrong more than once.  :thumb:

Yeah, I've been really wrong.  I actually edited out the content of the post because it was so wrong (with a message that I was wrong, not trying to cover up ;)).

I thought that was kinda' weird too, but he's just trying to help.  Judging from his posts, there's just a bit of a language barrier.  He seems reasonably competent in mechanical knowledge so far. :)

When you try to diagnose without seeing the patient, you're going to be wrong quite a bit.  My hands are all itchy to get at KYGS500E's bike because we haven't been able to fix it, but I'm too far away.

in that case ASIA 1, I apologize if I offended you. Thanks for helping out.

Thanks to all for your 2 cents.  Hopefully I won't have to "concur" on the valves as this might be a costly repair.  I'll watch the video too.

thanks all

Hello all,

Anytime my bike is acting up, it rubs the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again.
