I jokingly said something about putting a coffe mug holder on my tank in an earlier thread ....

However, it's come to my attention that ever since I started riding to work, I've been coffee deprived. (ok, it's not that bad...)

But, I've been thinking ... they make magnetic tank bags right!?! What it I modded a mug holder to have a magnetic bottom? That way it's not permenant and I still get my juice to work!

So now, after having typed this out ... I'm not really sure why I posted this but, whatever.

Anyone have any thoughts? Anyone ever been bored enough to try something like this before?

Just another one of my "poser" mod ideas ... Scott :thumb:

The cup might not stay in there, big guy.  I'd like to see that once you figure it out

Ah Ha ... but I've thought about that. I'm thinking of modding one of those that closes down to fit your mug size. Hmm, maybe I'll have to super-glue some rubber "grippies" along the inside just for more ... well, grip!

Thanks for the thought! And yes, I'll be sure to post pics for the enjoyment of all. Hell, I might even do a write-up!

Why not just put one of those strong ass neodymium magnets on the bottom of the coffee cup too? Then it would stick to the magnet that's holding the cupholder to the tank?

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

Hmm .... with that thought ... Why not just put a magnet on the bottom of my cups!?! Mmm .... but I wonder if when trying to get if off the tank if I'd end up spilling it everywhere. I could just see myself putting too strong of a magnet on the cup, then wrestling with it out in the parking lot, spilling it on myself and the bike when it FINALLY lets go ... yeah, I'm sure my soldiers would get a kick out of that one!

I'm starting to think this might take a little bit 'o research .... Hmmm

Well, I'd recommend putting the cup in a cup holder, since the cupholder would give it a flat surface, versus the curved surface of the tank. Instead of one big central magnet, stick 3 or 4 of the really small magnets around the perimeter of the bottom of the cup... Should give you good stickiness without being overpowering. I was thinking like the magnets they use on nametags at like Best Buy or Chik Fil A... you can buy really strong rare earth magnets at just about any scientific supply store, or even on ebay.

*edit* Hope you'll accept my apology for my response in the other thread, I wasn't trying to be a jackass, honest!

Being that I wear a full face helmet the issue of how to carry any drink on a motorcycle is of no real concern becasue what is the point if I can not drink it?

But if you must have atry at it check out this link and you might be able to figure out a way to fit it on your GS500?

Aaa - Ooo!!!! That's an Easton Riser bar with Avid brakes (sorry I couldn't quite make out the frame ...) Go-go city-bike!!! BTW - That better be a SS as I'm guessing it is given no shifters ... oh wait ... there they are. I'm disappointed. Trash those things on a city-bike buddy. SS the way to go ...

... oh how I love cycling ...

Anyways ... Hey, thanks for the link.  I might just have to get one of those for my ol' campus cruiser ... (not sure why I still have it as I'm not in school anymore, but seriously ... can you really have too many toys!) :)

Why modify a cup holder with a magnet when you can just get the cup with a magnet built in. My dad used to own a lawn maintenence company and he had this mug and water bottle both with magnets built in. I'm not sure of the company that makes them though, if I get a chance tomorrow I'll see what I can find.

you know what would be cool... is a magnetic base that is left on your tank, and a cup with no magnet to it, that twist-locks into the base so that way all you have to do is twist your cup off and you don't have to worry about spilling or scratching you tank. :dunno_white:

Hey yeah, that WOULD be cool. But, I was looking for something that could be taken off w/o leaving something on the bike.

Why not get a fancy spill-proof mug and stick some magnents in the base?

What an easy solution! :)
