My Pegs are in my way when I stand the bike up!?

Im too short to sit farther back in the seat so my legs do not line up with the pegs.  So I have no choice but to sit up close to the tank where the pegs stab me inside my shin.  What to do?

You could try some handlebars that reach fartherback (possibly dirt bike bars) or shave some foam off the seat so you can bend your knees a little

tighten it till it strips.. then back off 1/4 of a turn

I am having a hard time visualizing this.. :dunno_white: If you are short and sitting up close to the tank, and the pegs are behind the tank, why aren't your legs in front of the pegs? I think I am missing something / not understanding.

I dont know I've sat on 2 GS500f's so far and both hit me in the legs.   My legs are a little in front of the peg but I dont feel that to be too safe because its almost like my legs are resting on the pegs.

Phaedrus

Hmm..ok. I just went outside and sat on my GS500F and tried to bang my shins on the pegs (I do weird things when I am bored). I couldn't do it, and I am probably taller than you but by no means tall. How far forwarding are you leaning? Are you leaning on top of the gas tank? The gas tank is forward from the pegs. When you are riding, your feet go on the pegs..when you are stopped, your feet go on the ground in front of the pegs.

Now unless you have really LONG legs and leaning forward on the tank, I don't see how you can hit your shins on the pegs  :thumb:

My bad with all the name calling here I'll call myself a tard... I meant calf!

GS500Ghost

So my legs are in front of the pegs and no matter how I lean my legs drop straight down andthe back of my  calf rests on the peg.  so if i had to back it up, my legs are not long enough to reach around the pegs. I'm in a SOL situation I think unless I shorten the pegs.  but I can hardly reach the floor to brgin with.

Yeah, you could shorten the pegs but if you make them too short, your foot might slip off when you are riding. You do not want that!  :o

You can always cut the seat (remove some cushion) like insulinboy said, but the latter mdoel GS seats are already pretty crappy. Cut it too much and you might as well be riding a horse bareback. You could lower it with some dogbones, but it will effect the handling of the bike, but that isn't to say you can't do it, or both of those solutions.

However, I suggest getting some good, leather riding boots with a heel. It will give you an extra inch or two and help protect you. Boom, two birds with one stone.

If you still have issues after the riding boots, you could try the other methods  :thumb:

Are you running outside again?  :icon_lol:

 I take each and every opportunity to sit on, ride, tinker with, look at, or talk about my GS that I can. Haha.

I'm short too, they kinda get me in the legs too, not much you can do about it. I angled my shifter and brake differently so i could get my legs in closer and a bit further ahead

My friend said something about rear um.. rear something that moves the pegs back more. Think that would work?  I'm looking at a pair of Harley boots now iwth a 1 3/4 heal. I will have the seat shaved.

changing the rear sets. It can be a bit of a PITA though. Look at Pablo's site for conversion info It will move your pegs but you may have comfort/reaching issues if your smaller.

I angled the shift down and it gave me a little extra space, the brake i made even with the peg. I reach better on the shifter side than the brake side  :dunno_white:
