After reading about the clinic, I contacted my bro-in-law with the info and here is what he replied:

I went to a Doc Wong maintenance and repair clinic.
It was fun and interesting, but the mechanics on duty
were a little drunk beyond their stupidity.  I made
the mistake of volunteering my bike (the Ninja) as the
demo bike.  They hosed my forks down with brake
cleaner, which efficiently removed the paint, and kept
trying to put the metal replacement pads on the rear
and some softer ones on the front.  Somehow they also
got lube on the rotor, and that in combination with
fresh, unbedded pads gave me almost no braking force
for the way home.

I have never been to a maintenance clinic.  They are, however, hosted at I-bike; I do not know the reputation of the shop as I do not go there.

The riding clinic is hosted by Doc Wong.  I have attended at least 18 (some twice) of these rides and have gained further knowledge, experience and learned something new each time.  I have since become a group ride leader (usually one of the slow groups) and have not had anybody crash in my groups (I'm slow).

Do not let the Maintenance and Repair clinic reflect on the other free, often after-hours or weekend clinics.  These are guys volunteering their time to teach stuff that otherwise would only be available with a government grant to go to a trade school (Motorcycle Mechanics Institute or American Motorcycle Institute).
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

Wow...I've been to two Doc Wong clinics, and no one was anything but professional, and I learned a lot. I've never heard anything bad, so hopefully this was a single incident...   :o
