hey guys, i've had my GS for about 4 months now, and just starting to play around with the modifications...

I've got the 15 tooth sprocket on the front, changed the handlebars to something more race orientated, i've also ordered 2 x unifilters for the carbs, and i've got a remus exhaust which i should have this week with the dynojet kit for the carbs... suspension is next on the list..

Some mates have said that you can lift the GS' with a good amount of throttle in 1st gear from take off.... is it possible to lift the bike whist moving?? and how??

Sure just go along at 15mph hold in the clutch rev it past redline and dump the clutch!!!  :thumb: Go try IT!!!

melloGS

Try this...
in first...go half throttle and hold it there...when you get going up to about 20mph, pull the clutch in and let it out, still holding throttle halfway...it will come up if you commit to it...
that's how i first got it up on one...
FK5 / SM2 / 15t / 41t / sv650 shock ... -->GSX-R600k7

are you talking about lifting the rer of the bike with a suspension mod? if so the sv650 shock is your best bet, if you are talking about wheel stands then what the guys in the posts above are on the money. :D don't crap off. all to easy to do when your trying to learn to do it
pod filters, costum r6 quill exhaust(no baffles)40/140 jets, heavy duty springs, sv650 rear shock, gsxr srad tail, bandit 600 4.5 inch rim with 150 tyre, gsx twin disc front end "1995 pocket rocket"  ridden by a kiwi in scotland

1.  Put the bike on the center stand.
2.  Sit on the bike and assume normal riding position
   a. Stoppie: lean forward the back wheel will lift
   b. Wheelie: lean backward the front wheel will lift

Why didn't you upgrade your suspension first? You can get the front end up and the rear end up without all those power mods, but it shows just how crappy the suspension is. Suspension should be first on your list of upgrades.

Also, if you ARE talking about stoppies and wheelies, why did you put clip-ons on?

yeah was talking about wheel stands... i'm used to riding dirt bikes that weight about half of what my GS does - so it's a bit of a learning curve for me before i head to the bike shop for a 1000...  :icon_lol:

still like to think i'll hold onto the GS but - i love the sound of a carbie twin..

Wait, wheel STANDS? Ohhhh...

Pitbull is a popular option. You'll have to get some spools for the swingarm of course, but that shouldn't be too hard. Why not just use the center stand?

yeah i'm looking into this aswell.... i've trashed the idea of the clip-ons... saw on another forum a couple of guys put RGV USD front ends on their GS's and they look awesome... plus you get the twin calipers..either that or i just change the springs and add those blocks in the tubes...  ;)

Alright, in that case, wheelies = wheel stands, got it.

You should be fine just beefing up the fork springs to something stiffer. When you add a new front end (be it that sexy RGV250 front end Leveler put on or a Kat600 front end) you'll have to find some way to remount your guages, as you lose the top plate that holds them now. All in all it can be a costly process and generally not very fun to figure out.

I'd say beef up your suspension first, as you can get the GS up with good technique no matter what. The suspension will REALLY show how crappy it is when you're doing wheelies though. Check out RaceTech springs for a stiff straight rate solution, or Progressive suspension for a cheaper solution.

Yeah i don't mind the weekend tooling - i'm pretty handy with that kinda stuff... must admit i'm huge fan of the "twisties" here in NSW so something with the front end is deffinately on the cards...

has anyone managed to wheelie their GS in any other gear apart from 1st??

DON'T rev it past redline.  10-15 mph in first, clutch that sucker to about 8000, give it a yank, and yeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaa.  As far as other gears, mine won't loft it in anything other than first, but once up in first, I can keep shifting until I'm in 4th, the front wheel usually stops spinning by then and makes a pretty good chirp and headshake when it comes down.

when you say "give it a yank" do you have to preload the front end before hand??

corndog67

That would help, but mine bottoms out real easy.  I ride a YZ250, and a KTM500, the 500 will wheelie in 4th and 5th, the 250, 3rd, maybe 4th, but it is a whole different deal.  The GS is pretty underpowered, I had an SV650, that would wheelie in 3rd standing up.  When you do them standing up, it changes the center of gravity, makes the bike wheelie easier.
