1996 GS Carbs: Quick Question -- Vacuum Leak

Hey All -

REad a few posts on vacuum leaks, it seems to be what I have. When the bike it idling, I spray contact cleaner up under the gas tank at the black diaphram caps, when I do the left side, the bike dies a few seconds later. Now I go around to the right side, start it up, it idles high for a few seconds then comes back down. Spray up inside at the right diaphram cap, bike dies.

So my question is, could there be anything else causing the problem other than these caps? I cranked them down like a mother fncker the last time I pulled the carbs and I even lined the inside edge with some grease to create a better seal... Still does it. I can't imagine air is slipping in there, that part is driving me nuts, they are so tight on there.

Let me know what your idea and thoughts are on this one~!

manifolds probably are old and cracked.

when i spray at the manifolds, nothing happens though?

I just put in some new diaphrams and it seemed to have helped the problem. the idle is set at 1100 right now. If I ride around at 8krpms for about 3 seconds, then pullin the clutch the bike almost dies but stays at under 1k rpms, and slowly gains back. So I'm leaning towards not enough fuel in the float bowls right now as I did adjust those today as well trying to track down this problem.

You didn't mention the tiny O-rings under the diaphragm caps.  (Item 26 in this MrCycles diagram.)

Are they in place and in good shape?  If not, that could permit entrance for the contact cleaner.
