On my way home from picking up a bunch of tools an stuff to do start my weekend with some wrenching, just beyond a set of 3 really bumpy sets of train tracks, a cage pulls out in front of me necessitating one heck of a fast stop. Right over a really nasty set of tracks. I grabbed the brake and clutch, and my rear tire must've lost traction in a bump, because it locked, and my back end started sliding out to the right. I managed to regain control and stop, but then there was a nasty sounding pop, and my bike died.

It started back up with a tug on the throttle, but now it idles at like 800-900 rpm, and I seem to have lost some power. I was planning on tearing into it today, anyway, I guess. I just hope I didn't break anything on it.

Glad you survived!!

Mmm...check to make sure the vacuum caps are on the spigots on the black caps of the carbs...just a feeling.  Also, check to make sure the carbs are still in their boots.
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

... Ummm.... How? All that really changed was the idle. It'll idle without dying at 900 RPM, and it seems to run better with the choke open slightly... But it only idles steadily at 3k RPM then

I meant to dive into carb work today, but I had so many problems with tryin to change my oil filter it was dark out before I got there... At least I got my oil, oil filter, and air filter changed... Tomorrow is carb day! And if that doesn't take me all day, it's valve day, too.  :icon_mrgreen:

But, there's a reason why the idle changed.  Find the cause, it just doesn't "happen".

Idles at 3k rpm steadily means there is a airleak somewhere.  So, too, if it runs better with the choke open slightly (adding gas to optimize the air/fuel ratio, you already have to much air from the airleak).
