they ran coverage of the accident for 2 and half hours this afternoon. You'd think there was a terrorist attack going on in Pittsburgh. F***ing idiot. If he'd had his gear on he would have gotten up and walked away from that crash. Morons on local sports radio are going on and on about freedom of choice and so on.  If I see him on the street I'm gonna whack him in his sutured up face.

what a jackass...to be a role model like he is why in the world would he ride without a helmet....

as for manning...he'll end up like dan marino...plenty of records in the books but no rings on his fingers.

Keep in mind that he's still a young buck...not a very wise descision to ride without a helmet...especially on a 'busa :2guns:

this has me totally disgusted. You can't turn on any channel in pgh without hearing about how everyone is hoping and praying for Big Ben. f%$king Neanderthal headed douchebag. Use some of your 6 mill signing bonus to buy a helmet.

and another thing. I'm sure the first pray for Ben or Ben get well shirts will be out by the end of the week, and will sell like hotcakes.

I'm gonna get a pic of his busted up mug and have it screened onto a shirt with the slogan "Got Helmet?"

From PennLive:

Suzuki Motorcycles of North America gave Roethlisberger the bike as part of a promotional deal in exchange for him appearing at several Suzuki dealerships in the area, including Andrews Cycle in Salem, Ohio where he picked up the motorcycle last summer. Andrews' sales staff declined comment.

The motorcycle is popular among first-time buyers, said Steve Stiller, a salesman at Northgate Motorcycles in Cranberry, Butler County.

Maybe Suzuki of NA should have given him a GS500F instead.  Then he could bash his head on the pavement going only 115mph instead of 198.
I brake for bezier curves.

ESPN had that story about NFL and one NBA player getting hurt riding in the off season from last year.  It was referenced above.
They showed footage of Kellen Winslow Jr. on his new Gixxer, 5 days after getting a permit.  He was captured by a security camera doing stoppies and wheelies in a parking lot.  Then zoom. . . off into an island on the parking lot and the tree growing therefrom.

I understqand your rage about local TV and newspapers. There are no jobs in Pittsburgh, but hey we got the Steelers.  :cookoo:

I'm starting to get really annoyed with all the "motorcycles are so dangerous" stuff.  Sure they're dangerous but not nearly as dangerous as the idiots who ride them and do dumb stuff like this.

LimaXray

From a MC rider's point of view this shows 1) why you should wear your helmet and 2) people who don't ride should pay more attention to motorcycles

to everyone else in the world, it will only show motorcycles are obviously way to dangerous and it is their duty to save us misguided souls who feel a need to play russian roulette with our lives

On a side note... In Europe they have public information commercials about watching out for motorcycles, but why not here in the US?  Are we too concerned with spending our tax dollars for commercials about telling your kids marijuana is BAD and how cigarettes cause cancer to actually do something that will make a difference?

What I read was that he was on his new 2005 Gixxer 750 LEARNING HOW TO RIDE (awesome...) and pulled a classic noob mistake and grabbed the throttle rather than the brake. Hello curb, nice to meet ya!  As opposed to Roethliswhatever, he was wearing a helmet. As opposed to smart people, it was not strapped on. Smart shaZam!, dude.

Um.. douchebag.
I got so many looks and comments on my way to work today. Stoped at the post office and the clerks were asking me all kinds of questions about my gear.  All I said is he would have walked away if he'd been wearing his.

Apparently you don't need a helmet, a license, or a brain to ride a motorcycle in PA.

that would be awesome. I'd buy one.

I'd be curious to know if he had to sign something in his contract about not participating in dangerous activities (of which motorcycle riding is usually specifically mentioned). I know it was an issue with Windslow.

From an article by ESPN's Darren Rovell;

"Roethlisberger's contract doesn't specifically forbid him from riding motorcycles. Most don't. However, agents say his accident might encourage teams to put specific language about motorcycle use in more contracts to protect their pricey investments."

Hard to believe the language wasn't already in them, but I'm sure it will be in them from now on.

Although there was nothing specific to riding motorcycles, there are clauses in every contract that forbid players taking risks like these outside of the sport and they all come with major penalties. Make no doubt about it. Roethlisburger will be losing a fair chunk on money on this little act of stupidity, not just from his salary, but endorsements too.

I'd also like a shirt. :thumb:
