not if the cable locks are passed through the zipper?  is that right?

The zipper holes will not be large enough to accomodate a cable lock, much less one strong enough to withstand a set of cutters. I have a 3/4" thick one looping my rear wheel to the frame and even then I don't feel it to be entirely safe. And that's the bike, not even a tail bag!

No.  You could just slide the zipper up the cable, in either direction, thereby moving the zipper and opening the bag, thusly.

I'll demonstrate:

are the zippers set up like suitcases or luggage where there are 2 and I can put a small lock on it?  then I can run the stupid cable through it?

No, they are usually fairly small zipper holes. And even if you put a small ock through I doubt it would have the kind of strength necessary to ward off takers. Also, unless you cabled the bag to the bike they could just remove the bag and deal with it later. They could also just take a kinfe and cut the bag open and take whatever is inside. It's best to take the bag with you wherever you go.

I have a tank bag and saddlebags.  I have the cortech sport mini tankbag and the cortech sport saddlebags.  If you are riding around town the tankbag would be just fine.  When I go to work I always have be saddlebags on because of the stuff I have to carry with me.  I even go to the grocery store and get groceries using the saddlebags.  As far as people getting in stuff, I have only had the problem once, when my bike was sitting in my driveway.  It takes about 30 sec for me to pop the anchor straps and lift the saddlebags off, which is what I do when I have stuff in the bags that I need  to take with me.  When the bike is put up outside and I am going in for awhile, I just make sure that nothing is in the bags.  Simple as that!  :thumb:

Yeah, I agree you could do this.

Jake says saddlebags are "ghey".  I do worry abt the tank bags scratching.

What is Gheyer is not having everything you need for work and getting fired!!!  I dont have those huge ass saddlebags either.  That and when I went down the saddlebags saved my bike from a whole bunch of damage.

Jake D

They are well designed.  They don't scratch.  There a lot of material between the magnets and the tank and it is soft and grippy.  Believe me, I am totally in love with my paint and would never do anthing to harm it.  But I plunk that tank bag down with no worries.  And it is stuck on there hard.  You have to kind of yank it off.  But I yank on it with impunity, because I know, deep down inside, that it won't damage my paint.

Get what you want it's your bike.  Doesn't matter if someone thinks it's ghey or not.  Get whats more practical / what you think you need.  The icon tank bag that I have is alot like what Jake D say's there's rubber padding / cushion, have not gotten one scratch from useing the tankbag.  The mag's in that thing are really stong so I don't worry about it flying off when I'm riding.  And if I happen to crash it comes with an anchor strap so my bag won't go flying off.  ( I have not tested that feature yet ).

Say what you guys want, but I've seen alot of tank bags cause scratches, even the neoprene padded ones.

The cable lock is looped through the grab bar on the bike, then wrapped around underneath and around on top cinched tight, some do use the little locks, but most of the time they just loop it through the stupid little zipper pull thinger, if they are that intent on getting into your bags theyre going to..but using that for a reason not to get them...come on...

actually, we can give it to the girl with the pink gear on the yellow bike

Ok, the chick in the chaps was wierd.  But enuf with bagging on the pink/yellow combo!!
Matching is overrated.

And on the subject, I use the Cortech mini tankbag.  It makes a good purse on both the days I am riding, and the days I'm not.  When I have to haul more stuff I use a backpack, and have left it locked to my bike a few times.  Technically, someone could have emptied the bag, but it was all paperwork and junk so they wouldnt get anything good.  If I need more space than that, I use another bag or backpack on the tail under a bungee net.

Yeah I have, my cousins R6 got a huuuge scratch on his tank from his manta bag, he hit it with his elbow and it moved and scratched it. Aside from huge scratches, I've seen small ones alot, the kind that might buff out but you never know. Kinda like the ones you get when theres dust and dirt on there and you rub something over it...its not ok..I never wipe my paint when its dry for fear of dirt scratches...but I'm anal...ask AJ..I spend almost as much time cleaning bikes almost as much as I do ridding them...
