I'm reading the thread abt tank bag suggestions.  Personally, I don't like them.  If I need to, I'll use a backpack.  What do you think abt tailpacks vs saddle bags?

I'm no lady. . .

But I just got a Joe Rocket Manta tank bag.

Awsome.  Looks cool.  Not too big.   Holds stuff.  And you will still look sporty.   :thumb:

Well, I JUST got saddle bags on my bike b/c I spend a lot of 3 day weekends at my boyfriend's house and I need to bring a lot of crap.  Of course they don't look amazing, in my opinion, b/c I just don't think sport bikes look right with saddlebags.  Anyhow, they are great as far as functionality.  I guess it depends on how much stuff you want to carry on your bike.  Check out newenough.com   For smaller amounts of luggage they have the sport saddle bags, then they have the standard which is what I have.  Check it out...

They say good things about tank bags (those who have them) but if you are short like me, I worry about them getting in the way.  Again, it depends on how much stuff you want to carry at a time.

How much are you planning on carrying?  That's kinda important to offer suggestions.

jackiei26

it all really depends but let's say an extra shirt in case it gets colder, my wallet (can't fit in my jacket), hairbrush & other small misc items.  I don't need anything big but the stuff is too big to put underneath the seat.  Currently I have a cargo net.

I'm with Jake. The Manta is a perfect tank bag for the little stuff you need to take around town. Sometimes I'll run through the drivethrough window and stick a fairly large meal into my Manta and then ride back to wherever I wanted to eat it at. It's plenty big for holding a few very large burritos with room to spare. They are good looking, too.

What I really nd to figure out is when I park, that wld mean I wld need to take the bag w/ me.  I'm a social person and I dont want to lug it arnd w/  me everywhere I go.  What abt tailpacks?

You'd still need to lug around a tail pack, too. That is, unless you want to leave it just strapped to your bike for anyone to take. That's what's so nice about the Manta bag. It's small and light and has a nifty carry strap. Not too hard to lug around, really. Tail packs are bigger and bulkier and usually don't come with shoulder straps.

I ABSOLUTELY refuse to put a tank bag on my bike. I paid alot of money for my paint and I will not cover it up/potentially hurt it with tank bag. My parents are buying me a cortech sport tail bag for my bike which is exactly what I want. Right now I use a back pack which is a bit annoying...I don't ride 2up alot and if I did I'd just make them wear a back pack. A couple of guys I ride with have the same tail bag and some the Joe Rocket Sport tail bag and if they're really worried about someone messing with it, they loop a bicycle cable lock all through it and over he top and through the grab bar. I've never had issue with someone messing with bags on a bike but in the cities you may.

Anyways, i think it's a grt idea to loop a cable lock all through it and the grab bar.

Could someone merely remove the contents of the bag, even with the cable lock?

not if the cable locks are passed through the zipper?  is that right?
