Rejetting a 04. Don't worry it will be quick.

I've done some research and I've tried to take out the good and ignore the hysteria and this is where I'm at.

It's an 04, a K&N Lunchbox is on it's way and the Jardine full exhuast.

I live in sunny southern California. I do occasional track days that always seems to be in very hot places and one track in particular is also higher in elevation. If any of this makes a difference.

Here's what I'm thinking would be best to start with.

Pilots  20
Mids   62.5
Mains  147.5

Or should I play it safe first and do this and go from there? This is from the jetting matrix.

Pilots   22.5
Mids    65  (one post had someone with 67.5)
Main    147.5 or 150

I am almost certain you will be too rich with 147.5 main jet. For that you need a race pipe and individual po d filters. But you can start with it and then go down until bogging dissapears.

Also IMO you shouldn't need more than 20 pilot.

Also when jetting remember that you have to select the correct main jet first then others. Correct main jet is when you open throttle wide open at 3k rpm in and it goes to 10k smoothly. I discovered it is best to see those problems in 3rd-4th gear.

Pilot 22.5
Mid 65
Mains 147.5
Mixture screw 3.5 turns out

I have not had any problems pulls all the way to 10K rpm.

Couldn't be more pleased with my setup - smooth pull from 2,500 or so up to redline. Of course, I'm still running the stock exhaust, and I'll have to change something when that changes. I almost hate to mess with it.

Not only do we need an updated jetting matrix, but it would be great to start a jet exchange. We all end up with a lot of jets we have no use for at some point.

I would start with wrecent's set up. You should be real close.
Speaking of jet exchange. Does anybody have 132.5 mains they would like to trade? I have 137.5's and 140's I'll trade ya.

With my jetting of 20/65/135 with only the K&N lunchbox my bike dynoed lean all the way through the rev range pretty much. I changed the jetting to 22.5/65/137.5 and haven't had any problems. Go from there when adding the full exhaust.

It's amazing that the lunchbox filter flows that much better than the drop in. I am a bit rich with 135's with the drop in and full exhaust. I am thinking about oredering the lunch box, so I'll probably have to order some 145 ish mains

The lunchbox removes the airbox, thus allowing for much better flow at high speed. You lose some bottom end though (but who is down there anyways?)

I haven't had to deal with full exhaust yet so I don't know the jetting for it, but mine dynoed fairly nicely.

'89-'96/'00 (don't remember if there was a change in '96 or not)
'01-'02

The '04 carbs are only minorly different from the '01+ carbs.

I'd say START with 22.5 pilots and 65 mid mains. What sort of elevation are you at? Austin is about 600 feet up, and 65 mid-main is a teensy bit lean.

I'm guessing I'm pretty close to sea level. I live 15 minutes from the beach.

Okay I'll go with 22.5/65/145 for a starting point.

Alpha- sorry if I've asked this before, but did you end up shimming your needles with that setup?

Nope, just changed the jets.

rangerbrown

why is it better over stock?

i have been told by many dyno shops now that pods are not the best, no way to get cool air thats away from the engine, were as the stock pulles from somewere else. how ever the lunch box was a better than both pods and stock.

thoughts?
