The good: The weather is freaking beautiful!  It rained today briefly and even with the steam coming off of the pavement, it wasn't even close to being as humid as Tallahassee.

The bad: I flew up here for work, and I don't have a motorcycle on which to enjoy the weather.  It's looking like we're only going to be able to work between 7 am and 3 pm, so that leaves hours of daylight that is completely wasted on not riding.

You know, if it wasn't for that whole "winter" thing with 10 feet of snow per year, this wouldn't be too bad of a place to live....

Hey, you're right!  I'm only about....6 inches from Binghamton!  Until I just looked at the map, I thought Binghamton was near NYC.  Of course, us southerners thing that anywhere in New York is near NYC.

lol.  I went to college in Elmira NY and went to highschool in a very small school in NY.  I was about 6-8 hours away from NYC in highschool so it was always mind-numbing to me when people in college asked me how I liked the city and if I was scared to drive and if it was dangerous and all this other crap.  At first I explained how far away I actually lived from the city but it wouldn't register to most people.  Then, my sophmore year my family moved to PA.  I really confused people when I told them that I lived closer to NYC living in PA then I did living in NY.

Onlypastrana199

People ask me that too  :cookoo: I'm closer to Montreal and Vermont than NYC...and I hate NYC..I've been there twice. Once in 8th grade for a fieldtrip and a few months ago for the Cycle Show. I have switched trains a bunch in Penn Station but  I never left the Station...I get lost in there like I was gonna wander around outside of it.

Cool  :thumb: I am actually closer to you than you think; I am north of Binghamton in a little two horse town called Norwich. My fiancee will be going to Syracuse University in the fall and I'll be up there most every weekend. Depending on the route, it is anywhere from 45 minutes (short way, but backroads) to well over an hour.

You are right tho, 'cuse isn't too bad, from what I've experienced anyway. There are some bad parts (ie south salina) but you'll have that anywhere. Too bad you don't have the GS, we coulda went for a ride or something  :thumb:

You're about an hour from where I go to college (Colgate University in Hamilton). To tell the truth, I hate Syracuse. It just feels... dirty. I don't usually go to it unless I have to.
1996 Black GS, stock except for where previous owner broke things

Well, they wouldn't let me take the GS as a carry-on.  The nerve!  It would have fit between my feet!

I did look for a bike rental place.  No such luck.  Doesn't matter though, because the 911 dispatch center decided that we could work any time we wanted to, as long as we gave them a break during shift change and rush hour.  That means no free time like I expected.  Of course, that also means that we won't have to come back and finish testing either.

I didn't realize that there were this many GSTwinners in the area.  If I could just get my company to spring for a few days of motel rooms and find a bike rental place, we could have had a group ride or something...

1270 miles....  That's like going from Tallahassee to AR (my mom's), turning around, and driving back.  Noooooo thank you. I'll stick with being a wimp.

OTOH, my company does pay for travel time....  :icon_twisted:

As a student at Syracuse University, I have to say Tallahassee must be a huge shithole for you to have come to this conclusion.

I'm referring to upstate New York in general, not really inside the city limits of Syracuse.

When you walk outside in Tallahassee this time of year, you have a hard time breathing because of the humidity.  It's almost like walking into a steamy bathroom.  It's not even reached the worst part of the year yet.

The other day here, it got up to about 85 and was, apparently, a hot, humid day.  We went into a restaurant and the waitress, in her best Wisconsinite accent, asked us, "Ya want a nice cold beer for a nice hot day?"  We laughed, and not because of her accent.

You have no concept of humidity until you've spent a summer in the southeast.  That warm, moist, Gulf air that feeds hurricanes is always blowing over the southeast.  It may only rarely get over 100 degrees, but that doesn't mean you are comfortable.  You are covered in sweat from a 50-foot walk from your air-conditioned car to your air-conditioned office.

I like Tallahassee, but not because of the summers.

You should try visiting Houston, TX during the summer time. It DOES get over 100 degrees regularly, and since it's right on the coast it is humid as can be every day. You walk outside and you feel like you just got your ass kicked three times over by five Hungarian piano tuners with Missy Elliott albums in hand.

I remember one time I was there, due to the humidity it felt like it was 130 outside according to the heat indexes.
