Didn't notice anything that looked like an intro forum, so I thought I'd just post here.  Within the last month, I've managed to decide to take the MSF course, actually go take it, go to the DMV, get my license, and buy my first bike--a 2004 GS500f.  Went and picked it up last night.  I'm still a little afraid of normal traffic, so I spent most of the day circling a parking lot.  Just wanted to say hello and solicit any advice anyone might have for a new rider.   ;)
Also, if anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this: My front brakes only turn on my brake light about half the time.  The previous owner laid it down on its right side, looks like a low speed fall.  It looks like just some loose wires, cuz the light goes on when we wiggle the wires around.  But my buddies want to take the whole thing apart to try to fix it.  (They're car guys, and I won't let them dissect my new bike.)  Has anyone has to fix up their brakes before?

Oh yeah.. And here's a picture of it, borrowed from the "for sale" ad.

The only thing to really look at, is the wires coming from the front brake switch, which I'm sure you've already discovered coming from in front of the brake lever perch.

Thanks, scratch.  I realized about that thread soon after, and posted over there as well.  And those are the wires we were wiggling that made the lights come on.  Hopefully we'll be able to take care of it with some skillful taping.  Luckily, the rear brake light always works, so I can count on that for now.
