Numbing hands...

My bike doesn't vibrate excessively at any rpm, but there is that unavoidable buzzing (especially when holding 8-8.5k rpms for extended periods of time) that wears on my nerves... I'm thinking throttle grips, but I don't know squat about them.

Anyone know of some really good, soft, vibration damping throttle grips that could keep a guys hand from going numb on several hour rides? I put on over 100 miles yesterday just running errands... I ride a lot and my hands are startin to feel a little funky.

Are you gripping the bars too much? Your hands should be light on the bars; the harder you squeeze the more vibrations you feel through the bars.

Try some gel grips. They are ~$12 and can be found at any local cycle shop. ProGrip has a variety of styles.

Bar ends? Sometimes lighter bar ends can quell vibrations more than heavier ones. I know my SM2s vibrate more with the stock bar ends in them.

I put throttlemeister bar ends on and it killed vibrations to zero.

I make a conscious effort to keep a light grip, and I don't put much of any weight on my arms. I have no clue what kind of handle bars I have. I'll stop by cycle gear and see what they have for grips, thanks!

BTW Those cheap small bar ends that they sell at cycle gear, made my handle bars vibrate worse than none at all.
But they look kool though.

another thing you could do is take something like chopped up glue sticks and fill the empty void in the handlebars.  Easiest way to do this is to take the bars off remove one barend and drop in small pieces of glue sticks untill tey fill the inside of the bar enough just to let you put the barend back on.  I havn't done it myself but i hear it works fairly well.

What exactly is a bar end? I hear a bunch about them, but I honestly have no idea what they are...

Thanks, but what are they for? Stopping vibration?

That, and protecting the bars in case of a slide. The bar ends will grind instead of the bars. I don't want my SM2s to be rendered useless if the bike drops.

You could also try a throttle device.  I got a Throttle Rocker when I got my bike last year.  It was pretty comfortable and stopped my throttle hand from going numb.  I never had much of an issue with my other hand.

To tell the truth though, I really don't use it to much anymore.  A loose grip works better, along with padding on your gloves.

Momo motorcycle grips. . . didn't even know they exhisted

And if you keep your hand loose it does help with the numbing hand I plan on getting some different grips.  Just have not found the ones I like yet.

Even if the voices aren't real they have some good ideas.

I agree with flyingbeagle the THROTTLE ROCKER  [ $ 10.00 ] is a great item , I use it with a pair of GRAB ON  GRIPS [ ROAD $10.00 ] and find most of the vibration is gone and it makes externded runs on the highway more tollerable. cheers!

Cool, I'll check those out! I'm on my bike for over an hour at a time daily, so despite my loose grip it still gets to me a bit.
