As a sequel to my mesh jacket question, now I'm wondering about gloves. I've narrowed it down to these 4 since they all seem to offer good protection while maintaining a relatively low profile appearance. I'm not really looking at racing gloves because they seem large, espensive, and unnecessary for my riding style. So what do you think?

I found that the Joe Rocket (???model??) fit me the best.  I was suprised how much difference the sizing was in the different brands.   Just like you picked out, all leather gloves should be the safest in case of a fall.

I think I'm gonna go snag a pair of the alpinestars sps gloves in a week or so. I've been wearing sp-1 gloves and I think they are a little warm for summer.

I've got the Cortechs and love em... comfortable, warm when I need em to be (i.e., when I'm riding at night in the rain at 60mph +), cool during the hot days... work well as squeegees to get the water off my visor...

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

I've got the Terminators right now. Good gloves, but the velcro on them is crap. It has ripped off the wrists on BOTH of my gloves. I had to get it sewn up and then have it sewn back onto the glove. Honestly though, you need to get which one fits you best. I'm going to check out the Alpinestars SP-S sometime, as well as the Octane S-Moto glove in the near future. I plan on getting those soon as they might fit me better than my current shorty gloves.

Check out the Octane S-Moto gloves too. They are all leather and have nice protection features.

I have these:

I like them a lot, but I'll probably upgrade to the SP-S before too long, since they're all leather.
No bike. =(

What about TourMaster (Cortech) Scarab R.R. gloves?  :thumb:

I also have Joe Rocket Phoenix gloves, but they seem wimpy compared to the Scarabs.  After a month with the Scarabs, I'm becoming impressed with TourMaster stuff (luggage is great, too).

I guess I cheaped out... I picked up A* MX-6 gloves. Not full leather but perfect (I think) for shorts trips to the store/class. For spirited riding i'll pick up some more race oriented gloves. I see it like this.... if I got more bulky gloves i would feel less inclinded to wear them on a trip that would take less than 10 minutes (on pretty empty roads)... so by getting lighter, smaller, more easily fit into pockets (and invariably less protective glove) I would be inclinded to wear them whenever I rode regardless of how short the trip was.

Makes sense?

I have alpinestars s-moto octane gloves, all leather but short cuff, good construction though and lots of perforations.

Yeah, but consider this: I crashed my old bike a few blocks from my house on my way back to school (high school at the time) and my non-leather gloves shredded. Check out the Alpinestars Octane glove or the SM-S. Short cuff designs with lots of perfs and all leather with good protection all over.

what do you guys do with your stuff when you go to like a mall, or a store or whatever. I usually put my helmet on the bike (with the holder thingy) or carry it in. put my gloves in my helmet, and then wear my jacket and if i'm wearing overpants i'll just leave them on. But I never go to a store where I'm there for more than 10 minutes. When it's 80+ out though, I just drive everywhere because it's too damn hot wearing all that gear.

I wear my jacket, stuff my gloves in my helmet, and carry the helmet.

If it's too hot, maybe invest in some mesh gear? It works great in Texas heat well above 90 F.

But walking around with a jacket on? How can you stand it? I would like to ride to the track when I go to watch stuff but I don't know where to put my jacket and pants.

It isn't that hard walking around with a jacket on. If you go to the track, just take the jacket off and set everything down next to you. Or lock the helmet on the bike and just carry your jacket and gloves around.
