IM deathly allergic to bees and wasps, so just looking at the pic makes my eyes water

What kinda camera you got and what mega pixel

weaselnoze

nikon d70s + sigma f2.8 macro. mega pixels dont matter unless  you are printing. its a common misconception.  this camera with a good lens will produce a far better picture than someones 9 mega pix point and shoot camera.  to answer your question, the d70s has 6.1 mp.

Absolutely.  A good (but not necessarily high resolution) sensor and especially good glass are the most important things.  But you can't really put that on the side of the box as a number, so...

An Olympus C-5000Z that I got as a graduation gift a couple of years ago.  It's actually a pretty decent camera, my parent's did their research.  I want to get a DSLR one of these days, probably a Canon, but  unfortunately it's just not a priority.

I also shoot an old Minolta XG-7 SLR, an Argus C-3, and a Holga.  I have this problem wher I keep buying old cameras. :)

google

If you're looking @ prosumer point and shoot and digital slr cameras, there are lots of review sites that get into the absolute nitty gritty photonerd stuff. If you're looking at the cheapo digital cameras for taking pictures of grandma's 81st birthday, then you're going to have to do some digging on google to find a lot of good information in order to make a decision.

How much was the nikon, because the pictures are beutiful.

weaselnoze

all in all i spent about 1500 on the camera with the kit lens, tax etc. i spent 400 on the sigma 2.8 macro lens.  100 on a tripod.  x amount on cards, bag, polarizing filter, uv filter etc... expensive hobby.

I used to be a photog for a newspaper,

yeah i did a lot of dark room processing

weaselnoze

what kind of paper was it? a local paper or what?  was it big or small.  how does this kinda job work?  per hour? per picture? whats it pay?

http://weaselnoze.matrixdancer.com/

RIP RICH! We'll miss you buddy!

TadMC

It was for a small local paper.

AND It sucked

The reason why is because of the fact that you are at the mercy of the Editor in Chief, or the mangaging editor.

I remeber I had to cover a story about a new fountain being erected.   I go out there and take close to 48 different pictures of that f%$king fountain.  and im not exagerating at all. because I made my own film rolls and I would do 25 frames per can.  but the first frame always gets waisted.

Any way, I bought basically a 500 dollar camera, and spent probably 2 hours getting great shots.  And when my managing editor lookedd at the pictures she told me great, the pictures were great, WHICH They were.  So Im like great Ill get my 50 dollars per picture.  So I go home that night and deadlines midnight. Which means that the papers going out tomorrow.  And the photographers Never have anything to do with deadlines or editing, so I dont know which picture they used.

I go to the newstand pick up a paper. And there ya go. None of the pictures I took were in there. Oh there was a picture of the fountain, but none of em were mine.

I bust in the door, "HEY, WTF!"

One of the reporters says,  "She didnt like any of your pictures, so she went buy a disposable camera and took the pictures her self.
She's on the rag."

Holy shaZam! i was pissed.  I spit on her door and walked out.  She can f%$k herself If Im working for free
