Before I begin, please make sure your tray tables and such are in the full upright and locked positiions.

This is a rant about stupidity, if you feel that you may be afflicted by this horrible disease, please do not procreate.

Please, if you are easily offended and will be like, "OMGWTFCOPTER" please abort now.

All the rest of us, make sure you are wearing full race gear (2pc zip ups are okay too) and cinch your chin-strap.

Alrighty, first we have our standard post.
"ZOMFG My bike shot my piston clean up my ass! How do i get it out? (HELP ME!!!!)"

Then it is closely followed by something like this.
"The solution to your problem is to buy a BRAND NEW 600 Super Sport."

To which I respond in lieu of one of the people who eats/lives/dreams/drinks GS500 (Kerry and such).
"First, bend over, then pull firmly on the connecting rod."
Then something snaps, the R6 boy has sparked my ire, and as much as I contain it something still slips out.
"Oh yeah, he wants to keep his bike, it is customized and such, so please (here's where I hulk out and go nuts) DIE YOU WORTHLESS PIECE OF SQUID SUSHI!"
Then I go back, delete that before posting and post,
"Oh yeah, it's a custom so he wants to keep it, so please keep on topic and don't post irrelevant stuff."
Which in comparison to my initial response isn't so bad, and if someone posted that to me I think I'd be like, "Hmm, what I said must be dumb, maybe I'll think and THEN post."

Then R6 boy returns... Sleeves all rolled up ready to set me straight.
"ZOMFG You so dumb, you know nothing! i've only been riding for 3 weeks (or something like that, by this point my brain has entered a seizure.) but I've already outgrown the GS, if you ride like mez you n33dz at least a 600, but U are n00bcake and you can barely ride the GS cause you suck!" (I tried to make the punctuation as bad as the squids, but I'm not that talented in l33t speak either apparently.)

At this point I'm thinking of ripping his brain out/having him go ride without his helmet, through a forest, blindfolded. But I use my better judgement and go back to what's important, the poor guy with a piston in his wazzoo.
"Let's try to stay on topic, if you want to sufficiently "tell me off" or whatever please do it in PM, I mean for crying out loud this man has a piston stuck up his ass! He has better things to worry about than our differences.
Now firmly grasp the connecting rod with some channel locks, make sure you have a good footing."

Next the squid posts something in another topic I'm watching...
"100? that's so slow, I did 170 ahahahah, you wuss."

My brain goes in to meltdown, the stupidity has reached an unbearable level, I must somehow combat it.
"100mph............."

We're still waiting on R6 boy to reply to this one. I'm sure it will make me want to strangle the hell out of him even more.
Rich, RIP.

At first your post made me laugh, because its true so many tend to stray off the point of the original post, and the whole cylinder up the bum hole thing - " haa please help " , but then when I got to the 170 mph crap, well your not alone, It always reminds me of all the past idiots I had personally know, the worst idiot memory was this punk ass kid who always thought he could out run the cops on his ninja 600, well one night while trying he was doing about 140-150 on some back country roads, he came around a curve and hit a station wagon pulling out of there driveway, his bike practically went though the rear seat area, before the cop even caught up the two young boys in that back seat were already dead, and the SOB on the bike had flew so far right over the top of the car it actually took them almost ten minute's to find him(dead) ..   So I'm glad to see other people care enough to rant.. Thanks CirclesCenter

Maybe you should come up with a rating system that will let us all know if or when we are  ready to move up to a super sport.  That is, unless you think you can never be ready for a super sport, and they have no place in society.

Generalizing is always, in general, always wrong.  And yes, I'm trying to be civil.  But it begs the question: what business of it is yours what bike somebody else rides and how they ride it?  Feel free to play your insurance card. . . now!

I agree with Jake D

It's not your business, so you really don't have any right to say anything to him (unless he ASKS for your opinion).

I was talking to this guy at my local motorcycle shop, and he was purchasing a Scorpion EX??? helmet.  I mentioned that I had heard some good things about that particular helmet.  He says, "Yeah.  I wanted to get a good helmet cause I just bought my first sports bike."

I didn't ask him which bike he bought, but I asked him, "Did you take the MSF course yet?  I HIGHLY recommend it BEFORE you jump on a bike.  That way, you don't learn as many bad habits."

He said, Not yet.  I've got to register for the next class.  But I've been riding dirt bikes since like 8 years old."

----------------------------------------------------------------------

I left it at that.  Because I didn't know his skill level, I didn't really push ANYTHING on him (he probably could ride circles around me tho...)

Im introducing the new ESRB  (Eric's System of Rating Bikers)

Rated S for Squid: contains wheelies and underequiped with gear.

Rated CS for Chicken Strips: contains wheelies and the inability to take corners well.

Rated AH for Ass Hat: contains over confident riders who think they are more awesome than you

Rated PGS for Purple GS500: contains the ability to go faster than the exact same bike but in a different color other than purple

and

Rated DA for Dumb Ass: contains riders who buy a hayabusa as there first bike and hit turning vans. Also contains SuperBowl winning quarter backs

For one I work for the Florida state police so its my job. And for two what business is it for all the inocent people like those two kids murdered in that back seat and just like a resent GStwins member who was hit and killed  by a IDIOT on the wrong side of the road. And for three I did not see any were on this post were it says not to get a super sport 600 or bigger just that stupid idiots should not be on them, thanks for getting off the subect of this post!!!!
(P.S. nobody has to ask my opinion-this is still a free country- God bless the USA - sorry Rich )

It is impossible for any of us to know when another rider is "ready" to move up to a different bike.  There are very few people on this board who couldn't get accustomed to a bigger bike in a very short period of time.  Many of us already have.  The list includes:
Pantablo(600rr)
Pandy(SV)
Me(SV)
Destro(YZF)
V8Pinto (who has a 'Busa)
Jabear (Daytona 675)
Danny (CBR600)
There are many others. Based upon the standard that we all seem to set for each other, really only Pantablo should have been allowed to move do a different bike.  Seems like maybe we are all over reacting a bit sometimes about it.  A bigger bike isn't going to make you travel back in time or crash instantly.  I think that if you have had some (a season, half a season) time on a GS and gotten comforable on it, you can easily learn to ride a faster, better bike without turning into one of the Biker Boyz, a squid, or a statistic.

+1 Jake D

I love my GS's.  Personally I know I would kill myself on a bigger bike. I like to ride my freinds KAwa z1000 very now and then.

loving the GS doesn't mean I'm a Puss. I just know myself and my limilts.

Who says you have to "upgrade" anyway?  some people do some don't.

To each his own. I guess.
Not the brightest crayon in the box, but I can still be seen from a distance.  ;P

Not really. The DRV400 makes about as much power as the GS but is also 150 some pounds lighter!

its unfortunate that all the riders that come here, whether on a gs500, looking for a first bike, or otherwise, can
t have the wisdom of hindsight we all have. While I understand the frustration-believe me, I do-I would also suggest tapping into your calmer self and counting to 10 before saying anything, or doing anything. You might find the strength of understanding and patience that way. its the only way I can stay around here as long as I have.

How about this standard,

Once you can utilize a keyboard well enough that i don't have to reread and decode your post (and then guess) then you can THINK about a 600cc.

I don't mind, so long as they go and get the 600, wreck it, and never interfere with me, that's ok

My rules don't have to apply, I'm not a dictator, so quit trying the "What if the world worked that way" response. If I was dictator you better bet you wouldn't be able to say that, or take creepy pictures of spiders and post them, or make a dill pickle that isn't crisp, ever even mention NASCAR, buy a purple motorcycle, drive an SUV, fart in an elevator, pull me over for speeding/passing on the right when there was no right lane, ever go faster than me, talk on your cell phone while driving, ever put mustard on a hotdog (that's just wrong), or relish, or eat anything with onions for lunch and breathe anywhere near me.

In short the world would be a lot different if I was ruler, but since I am not, and most likely never will be that is pure academic mastrubation.

For this occurrance (and most) I feel I am right and I can say whatever I want. If I went out and bought a 600cc TODAY would that be a good idea, no matter how level headed I am, I am only 20 and have only been riding a few months. Well it's true if I rode like a panzy at all times I'd probably be fine, but I don't think anyone buys a 600cc ss to ride to church on Sundays.

So yeah, we value your comments and are continually striving to improve customer service. (But the censored version of me isn't free, the demo version contains rudeness, profanity, fart jokes and cannot tolerate stupidity for extended periods. BUT when you upgrade and pay me MONEY I'll be like as inoffensive as Mickey Freakin Mouse!)

yeah, old. they suffered from mediocre suspension and had a little more hp than an sv. I think the F3 might have been 80-85hp though.
my 600rr is a different matter altogether. I wouldnt even think about going back to a gs500 from this bike. way too much fun.

+1 But even after my 600RR purchase, I've been holding onto my GS and have been actively riding it for commuting. I guess if I had to just have one, it'd be a no-brainer, but thank jebus I have room for both. :thumb:
