A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof, is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools....

Thanks to advances in automation, Nike shoes will be made by robots. Unfortunately, the robots will be made by children in Malaysia.

I did that once.  I was doing an oil change and vavle check at once.  got everything back together and took her for a ride and spit spit, switch to reserve (cause i let the fuelk get low before valve checks), spit spit, dead.  I sat there thinking what it could be and it hit me like a ton of bricks, gas valve under tank still off

I haven't done that, but...

Killed it at a stop sign. Went to hit the ignition and hit the horn instead. DOH!

...okay, okay, I've done that twice.

Man, you've got to do me (or us) the favour of using some punctuation in your notes.  I've gotta tell ya -- this is hard to read.  Oh, and fixing your spelling would help readability as well.

(If you were not from a primarily English-speaking part of the world (Queensland Australia, true?) then I'd have excused you, but my 5th Grade teacher would send me home with an "F" (no GS500  pun intended) if I posted this.  Apologies to the others -- had to say something.)

I now return you to your regular programming...

Well, you did comment on something stupid he just did, so you did stay on topic, sort of.

Folks,

As with most of my mistakes, I thought about the two posts that I made, first to criticize the style of writing by the original poster of this message, then my reaction to Bargovic's reaction.

Both of my posts were out of line for me.  Please accept my apology.

On the first post, at best I should have stopped after the first sentence.  It says how I felt and probably said enough.  Frankly, I don't know anything about DeathLucky.  As such, I should not judge.  It may well have been the best DeathLucky can do in English.  I should be satisfied with that.  It's their way of communicating.

With Bargovic's post, they were referencing a similar situation to what I was complaining about.  I didn't read the whole of Phaedrus' thread -- I was tired.  I should not have reacted to Bargovic's post, just walked as I wasn't mentally ready to respond.

I'll leave my responses as is, more as a reminder to myself than anything else.  I'm taking a short Personal Time Out to internally reflect before getting back into this forum game.

I hope it's a very short break, because we'd miss you too much if you were gone too long!

k...you've had a few moments to yourself.. are you back yet??  :icon_lol: :kiss3:

Oh yeah...in regards to the topic, when I first started riding, I forgot to put the kickstand down once after--what was for me at the time--a very long, intense ride (I think it lasted about 20 minutes).....T*I*M*B*E*R.... That was one of the first few drops in a long, successful career (so far) of dropping my bikes...  :cookoo:

Dumb question here on my part:

Is it really necessary to turn the fuel flow off each time?  If so, why?

I do not believe it is with the GS because the fuel is not fed by gravity, rather it is pulled, ala vacumn, when the engine is running. Engine off, no vacumn, fuel stays put.

...and I'm now way over my head...

I remember riding on the highway one time. I was trying to press my horn I pressed it like 10 times and a few of those times I held the button for a few seconds. But nothing. I was like, "Man, what happened to my horn?!" Then I looked over at the other handle and said, "Oh, there's my horn".
I was pressing the start button all along!!

Now that I think of it, I'm not even sure there is an "off" position for the fuel valve--atleast there's no mention of it in the owner's manual for my 2000 model.
