hello everyone i bought a 90 gs500e a month ago and its my first bike. ill get the pictures flowing soon... my plans for it are:

  • paint job - im thinking of sanding it and painting it myself, havent decided on the colours yet, maybe some pearlecents
  • headlight - acerbis blitz - love how it looks on the octane magazine GS500 project
  • seat and cowl - i want a seat for two with a sissy bar and im looking for nice looking cowls, do the new stock plastics you know the wide ones fit the old frame? this is the only seat i found
  • belly pan - these look nice
  • fenders - where can i find some for it?
  • tyres - any suggestions? winter is coming soon
  • exaust - something to increase performance, dont care about the noise
  • air filters - recommendations?

tell me what you think

Sounds good. I am in a similar project. Let me know how things turn out with the paint job.

Welcome!

Corbin seats can help you make the seat with two backrests.

The seat cowls have slightly different mounting tabs, but it can be done, you just need to be creative.

Fenders: salvage yard?  '88-90 GSXR fenders?

Tyres: I suggest Bridgestone BT-45 or Avon HKM AM45 front/AM46 rear.

Airfilter: K&N or UNI drop-in filters (OEM replacements)

Octane was a member here and used to post all the time a couple of year ago.  I recognized his bike right away.

Not sure why you need that sissy bar on there though.
Everything else looks sweet.
You can find all that stuff either on e-bay or Wild Hare Accessories.

hmmm... something funny. i was riding pretty slowly today when a driver came out of parking from the edge of the road to my right. i had nothing up my sleeve, and went straight into the side of the car. :bs: :bs: :bs: i flew up, made half a front flip and landed on my back.

what now? before the ambulance came i saw the fork was bent - good thing - it absorbed most of the hit along with the body of the car, a few scratches on one side of the engine from the fall and some damage to the tank somehow.

if this really is all the damage i will probebly get back money from the insurance and enjoy some new parts. hope for the best!

i'll find out tomorrow and get some pictures.

damage assesment:

  • fork
  • wheel
  • disc
  • what you call them that hold the fork
  • front part of chassis that holds fork

my mechanic says the chassis can be fixed using a bigass laser accurate machine... does anyone have experience with that?

from what i understand the stock fork is crap right? so this seems a good opportunity to get a better one! any suggestions?

thats me btw!

Best of luck with your project bike! But why with damaged frame? Was it a bargain price?

From the picture the wheel and the brake disc look fine.
Triple clamps
Steering head

Yes, I have had one of my frames straightened using one of those machines.  The bike was better than it was before.

I see,my bad,I got the wrong impression...   Any ways, two years ago (3 years accident free till then...) I had a simillar
encounter with a cager which resulted with bent forks and levers....yes and I did get to fly some before planting myself
on the back. Did think about replacing the front to GSXR but seeing the triples were OK decided to stick with originals

Oh and there's a better chance of being hit by stupid uneducated drivers around here than anything else...
Wish I had a missile in front of the bike to clear some traffic sometimes

Glad it looks as though you came out of the getoff better than your GS. It's easier to replace the parts on our bikes than the parts on our bodies. Glad you're ok!!  :thumb:

this is how i always ride:

  • helmet by syko
  • jacket by dainese armored shoulders and elbows
  • knee guards from simple plastic i guess
  • two 1.5 litre water bottles full/empty in backpack

fallen on my backpack and lower back. the backpack and the elbows got a little road on them.

How is it riding over there with all that going on?

the missiles that were falling closest to me were about 70 km away. didn't hear a thing. a suicide bomber was arrested or killed in my city about 1 km from me. the police blocked some exits from the city. i at the time was in one of the blocked crosssections. they didn't let anyone move and as soon as i got past all the cars and to the front they tell me i cant even make a u turn. i scrammed right after the cop backed away. it was a close one.

i see it this way. when in fear a country does all kinds of stupid shaZam! like being agressive or freeze from fear just like people and animals do. i aint gonna let fear dictate my life. i didn't join the army unlike most my age. if the state wanna blow people up, mess up its economy and stop traffic, its her choice. i don't want none of that. love!

f£$k that, any way,
forks pritty much any suzuki forks will fit, the only issue will be the fact that the head stem is longer on pritty much all other bikes, but a simple space on the bottom fixes that no worries,
so get a complete front end, you'll need top and bottom yokes, forks whell and discs, claipers handle bars.
your only other issue is with mounting your headlight as the gs forks are thinner than most other shocks as well you'll have to get a new headlight bracket (get them off ebay for about $15 for a nice chrome one)
and the last thing ids mounting your clocks(speedo and rev counter) the bandit ones are always a good option but generly go for silly money, so you will have to try and get your original dail bracket to fit,
its a fairly easy mod to do and well worth it for the extra stopping power that twin discs give you.
the laser thing you are talking about is a chassis jig, if it all comes back straight then sweet, if not.... its up to you, i rode around on a seriously twister gsxr for a while and had no worries, but im not saying its a good idea to do so,
good luck with your bike, and i hope all goes well :thumb:
